All I can say is I came out extremely impressed with our offense in that game, and especially excited about the future of it. The defense on the other hand....

Your offense was fine in the game. You had more success than anyone we've faced this season. Again, having our secondary banged up didn't help matters, but it's obvious you have talent on that side of the ball.

For the future, at least next season, it could get dicey. You're losing Patterson, at least three if not four starting offensive lineman, and I'm guessing your big 3 WRs - DPJ, Collins, and Tarik Black. Ronnie Bell is a nice piece, but it helps when you have other studs taking coverage assignments away.

There can be benefits from it, especially depending on the material. But no econ major is taking history 101 online and not googling answers. You also have to factor in, students who get into MIT are probably a bit different than students who get into OSU, or even Michigan.
But what does that have to do with what those idiots on the michigan podcast said?

I'm hoping we get at least Black back. He didn't do much this year and I don't know how his NFL stock is looking. It would be nice if DPJ or Collins shocks us and comes back. I hope at least one comes back. Bell is nice. The line is getting gutted. But I think at QB we're OK (finally). Plus, the two young RB's looked great this year. And a year in the system hopefully means we come out strong next year instead of needing 6 games to work it in.

But defensively, we need to do something different. Brown keeps going into that OSU game doing the same thing expecting different results. DT is especially shocking in terms of depth. that could be a massive problem next year; especially if they don't get any in this recruiting class.

Again, if I was a student athlete and a school offered me to come play football at an elite football school while not actually having to attend class; that would be a major plus.

Who's your QB next year? Milton? Don't know much about that kid.

Your problem at RB is that Harbaugh seems to be taking a page out of the Doug Pedersen book and refuses to let anyone be the true bellcow outside of Higdon last year. It's ridiculous that you guys haven't had a RB get drafted since Mike Hart over a decade ago.

But you also said michigan offers online classes for GECs, didn't you? And are you honestly telling me the only reason OSU got Fields is because we told him he could take GECs online? Come on, you know those guys are dumbasses, especially considering michigan's history of academics and football players.

I like that - good work.

The SEC has Bama and the B1G has OSUx. Cutting corners to win completely betrays the very premise of higher education. The baboons can fawn over a shiny trophy while the truly accomplished revel in only their own competence.
Yeah, a team who pays their coach $7 mil and plays in the second largest football stadium in the world doesn't care a lot about football.

No, all Michigan football players are mensa-level magna cum laude scholars. That 9 on the wonderlick test Rashan Gary posted was just because he was having a bad day.
maybe didn't want to let their secrets out?

No. OSU probably got fields because it was an elite football program with absolutely no QB on the roster. But it likely was a great selling point.

It isn't "scooting around the system", that's absurd. It's what any other undergrad student can do. There's no defending your fellow michigan crybabies, they're just flatout wrong, which makes their pathetic little podcast even worse.
As mentioned, they pay their coach $7 mil and have the 2nd largest football stadium in the world. They care a little about football, too.

We have Mccaffrey for a couple more years. Joe Milton for 3 more seasons. and Cade McNamara redshirted this year so 4 more years with him. All four star prospects. Mccaffrey has shown flashes, especially in the run game. But he's been injured a couple times so I'm not sure how durable he will be.

Charbonnet is a true freshman and Haskins is a RS Soph; so both have 3 more years of eligibility left. In terms of young backs, they did really really well. I think Charbonnet beat Hart for # of touchdowns for a true freshman ever at MIchigan. Also we get Chris Evans back next year. That should be a really good group for the next couple years.

I don't think anyone can look at the Fields situation and reasonably argue that he's just a normal college student trying to juggle life and take courses online and that there wasn't consideration for how easy this path could potentially be. If he does end up getting a degree, fine. But I think we'll see he's just taking the easiest path until he can get to the NFL. Which is also fine. I have no problem with that, but let's call it what it is.
What's more accurate is to say I don't think anyone can look at OSU success and Fields and think online classes is why he chose OSU.

Like I said a couple posts up, the #1 reason is because OSU was a major program in need of a QB ASAP.

I graduated in 2008, I took online courses. They are 100% easier and yes, they're also convenient.
I took classes there in early 90s. No internet access for me but hell it's just a sports forum and not like you'll check out my transcripts.....I took online, no internet courses and it was just as tough as going to class.

I think you are confusing halftime adjustments with how the game played out. OSU didn’t start shutting down WR’s — UM starting dropping pass after pass after pass after pass.

View attachment 224941
Once the game became a blowout (AGAIN) — OSU knew everybody down was a pass and could just drop everyone in coverage. This is why we were able to break off a 45 yard run.

What makes OSU’s secondary so good this year is one guy — Chase Young. When he pressures the QB — WR’s don’t have time to run patterns. That is why UM was successful. They had a player chip Young at the line of scrimmage and double him, etc. — it gave WR’s time run routes.

After the 3rd debacle where we dropped almost every pass — UM had to throw every down, so OSU knew what was coming.
I agree UM WRs dropped a ton of passes.....those are not on coach or QB.

Haskins would have two years left if he's a RS Soph, but I know what you mean. At any rate though, you haven't had a RB jump out and take the reins, and that's a big deal.

I get your point. But anecdotally, at least in the classes I took, they were completely a joke. Mostly because they allow the individual to make them a complete joke. They're based largely on the honor system.

The classes aren’t real time — the professor records the lectures. You log on when you want and listen to them. Online courses can have an infinite amount of students in them. You are tracked by when you log in and if you ‘play’ the lecture. You can literally put it on mute and press play.

I only took the one course online, as my school only offered intro courses online. But if they offered all of them online — I would have done that in a heartbeat.
At least when I went to OSU you could also just not go to the lectures if you chose not to. Agree I'd have chosen online...but for convenience, not because I thought it would be so much easier.
