Some people like to brag about their conferences Bowl records for a season. Most don't look at the actual match-ups.
What I prefer to do is to look at the match-ups in view of a teams in-conference ranking. To do this I refer to the "Massey Composite Rankings" which as the name implies is an average of the on-line rankings (usually about 90 ranking systems).

Here are the P5 vs P5 Bowl match-ups with the conference rankings...

Thanks for doing this. It's nice to see it all laid out like this.

I remember when conference bowl records were important, but it's obvious that the bigger programs now don't care about these bowl games very much anymore, and who can blame them? Many of their top players won't be playing, and early signing day is a week away. No need to waste too much time working on a game plan for an exhibition game when you've got recruiting to work on.

I have no idea how FSU is favored over GA. I expect that to be a 3 score win for GA.

UGA is favored by like 16. I don't know what he is talking about.

I think he is using the average of the rankings in this thread. The CFP, AP, and Coaches poll all have FSU ranked above UGA. So I'm assuming that is why it has FSU beating UGA.

The only chance FSU has, and even then it is still a slim chance in my opinion, is if UGA has several key starters sit out this game. If Kirby just phones in the game prep, and concentrates on recruiting, while treating this more like a team vacation, FSU could sneak one out...I guess. :noidea:

This is dumb and pointless. Especially in a post-portal era. Judging many teams on their bowl performance when they won't even resemble the team that played the regular season.

I agree. The bowl system is now just a way for teams to practice for a few weeks longer, get a good look at some of the younger talent on the team, and get an all expense paid vacation for your entire team. There really is no reason to spend much time creating a competitive game plan, especially now that early signing day is in late December.

Bingo - Its back to being a full on exhibition. Anyone making any serious take-aways from bowl season is kidding themselves at this point.

It is based on the idea that ALL P5 conference are equally "strong". FSU is the #1 team in the ACC and UGA is the #2 SEC team thus FSU "should" beat UGA. (It's not what Vegas says!)

No, as I said.
It is based on the idea that ALL P5 conference are equally "strong". an 8-4 record is an 8-4 records in any P5 conference. (or the #1 team is the ACC is equal to the #1 team in B1G or the PAC or the Big 12) FSU is the #1 team in the ACC and UGA is the #2 SEC team thus FSU "should" beat UGA --IF all conferences are equal!!!
(It's not what Vegas think! That is in part two)

Will the bowl system be used in the upcoming 12 team playoff or will higher seeded teams get a home game?
