And no, we did not land Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis. That said, we'll gladly take out haul yesterday and not have regrets about it. And wish Utah the best of fun eating that Bojan contract with him now on the wrong side of 30.

Assuming Oladipo is going to be out for another half season, I don't now if we're a playoff team in the increasingly competitive east, but we did what we needed to do - Add true scoring options in his absence.

Giannis to Pacers in 2021 baby!!! He's on word for saying that playing in a small market without added distraction has made him everything he is today. And if Middleton and Bledsoe don't age as well as we'd hope (myself included), he may look to sign with the best team that has cap space. And if Lamb and Warren do in fact exercise their 2021-22 PO's....

Yes, my slogan is quite outdated at this point, but only because this board hates it so much - Might as well, right?

Of course the Pacers aren’t after agent destination.

Brogdon is a very nice player. But you got him because you paid more than anyone else was willing.

Destination markets are able to get attract superstars everyone else wants on a max and get players to sign for less. The Pacers are not that.

If Giannis decides to leave Milwaukee in 2021, you can bet it won’t be for Indiana

But you are building mediocrity, not a champion. So who cares if it's built or bought?

And it's not hate, it's ridicule. It's a stupid slogan.

If you are actually suggesting that if you ever get Giannis, you'll become a title contender, then I have to agree with you!

But then again, almost every team in the league would become a title contender with Giannis in its roster...

Therefore the only way Giannis will ever leave MIL, is if MIL surrounds him with a worst roster for the seasons that follow...

....Which of course can't be the case if Indy steps up and pays 85M for Brogdon and because the Buks threatened to match, you pay an additional 1st and 2x2nds + 12M of cap space (trade exception) to the team... Which of course gives the Bucks the oportunity to end up much better than they where with (probably injury prone ~ I hope not) Brogdon...

Well, it is confirmed now.

Giannis to leave the Bucks in 2021

I swear, you move the goalposts every time we debate this. So now it's only the teams that could sign players at bargain prices that are FA destinations?

Back in the early 2000's, Chris Webber actually had the Pacers higher on his FA list than he did for re-signing in Sacramento. I was very young at the time and don't remember all the details, but the likely reasons for the Pacers not signing him were likely due to the money factor and perhaps they didn't want to hinder the development of Jermaine O'Neal. In turn, Webber did in fact re-sign in Sacramento...

Of course, @tlance will probably argue that it wouldn't have mattered simply because we couldn't attract Shaq or Kobe at that time, as if any team not named the Lakers could have. lol

I also specifically remember suggesting that the Spurs acquire DeMarre Carroll in a three-team deal for Kawhi and tlance laughed at it. Lo and behold, Carroll did end up making his way to San Antonio regardless. Could I get a big I fucking told you so??? Then again, tlance has to have the last word in literally every argument and can't ever admit when he's wrong.

The end result is all too predictable, like a toy monkey playing the cymbals.

No. You can’t. Because I am 100% right.

Indiana is not a player for the elite max FAs that everyone recruits. Which is all I have ever said.

Overpaying Malcolm Brogdon and signing a couple role players is more evidence on my side.

But, like in most cases, you just don’t get it so you make thread fail after thread fail. This is yet another.

And Carroll?

Are you really this dumb?

I did not laugh at the Spurs acquiring Carroll. I laughed at you for suggesting that the Spurs would accept a garbage trade for Kawhi Leonard. I can’t remember the exact details, but you had Carroll and somebody else who wasn’t that good coming in for Leonard and Danny Green.

I told you it was a joke of a trade idea because for 1 thing, Danny Green was more valuable than Carroll, which you argued. And if you look at contracts they just signed, I am again proven right.

Green signed for 2 years 30 million which is more annually than his last deal. Carroll signed for 3 years 21 million which is significantly less than his last contract.

Since you often fail to make connections, I will help you out. That is proof that Green had positive trade value last year while Carroll was a bad contract whose value was limited to his expiring deal.

Exactly like I said.

In other words,

Wrong and wrong.

You are right about the toy monkey thing, just wrong about who the toy monkey is

What free agent did the Pacers get? I see a TRADE for Brogdon, not much else? Or are you moving the goal posts?

Also, did I just see a humble brag about being preferred over Sacramento? Seriously?

So now you are saying the Lakers signing LeBron James at 37 million dollars was a bargain?:noidea:

Imagine if guys at that level could get paid what they're actually worth to their organization.

Want to really do away with superteams?

Remove the max contracts.

Max contracts were designed to let the little guy compete to resign their players. But the actual affect has been that superstars can team up on below market deals.

With no max, LeBron probably gets at least twice the max when he was in his prime.

Sure, and get rid of the salary cap along with that (otherwise you are technically capping what the star players can make by that former "team" cap).

Realistically, there need to be limits, unless you want all the teams clustered into the biggest markets and owned by tech billionaires.

No. Keep the cap as is. Would be too big an advantage for big market teams with no cap.

If Toronto could pay Kawhi as much as they wanted and had his bird rights, it would give them a better advantage. If they were paying $75 million or so (which is probably what the best of the best are truly worth), another team would have to gut their entire roster to fit that salary under the cap.

It would do a better job of preventing multiple superstars from teaming up.

The cap and tax would work better if no max contracts, IMO.
