WRONG! They had Foles ORIGINALLY on a one year team option. They re-did his contract (a genius cap move I suspect) and made it a mutual option giving Foles the chance to buy out of it.

Wrong. Foles signed a 2 year contract in 2017. The eagles redid the 2018 season after the super bowl win to give him $2mil more for 2018 and added the team option and player opt out for 2019. Basically it was a 1 year contract that paid him a little more.

The pats offered him a contract worth about 18M per year to be the backup with a bump in pay when Brady retires. The reason he turned it down was he wanted to play and nobody could commit to when that would be. He figured he was in his prime and was only gonna be in his prime once and wanted to play.

Not completely accurate. According this this story from NESN Boston, the Pats never officially offered him anything. Just had discussions about what it would take.

NOt a big surprise, but he probably did want to start instead of backup. Think that had something to do with more money than the Pats were offering? Think the Pats could've matched what he got from SF with brady's contract still there and NOT had to cut half their team to fit under the cap? Foles wasnt signing a 1 year contract so they had to decide whether they were signing him longterm and getting rid of wentz, or, letting Foles walk and have a year to work out a long term deal with wentz. Either way they were losing one of them and they decided wentz was better. You can disagree on that point, but it wasnt because of tight salary cap issues.
