Way too much value on Ted Williams in this thread as well.

No there isn't. He is a top 3 outfielder, right behind Barry and Babe and if it wasn't for Babe he could be considered GOAT. Nothing about him is overrated.

That's why I said longevity is the only issue, still a top 3 lefty of all-time IMO. Randy and Lefty are right up there as well. I wouldn't have a problem with anyone putting Randy at 1 honestly.

I put together stats that measured pitchers' stats against their contemporaries in the same league.
I came away with Lefty Grove as the best starting pitcher in history.

Barry Bonds is player non-grata to me.

Henderson was tough to keep off. What an annoying fuck ... I would not want Henderson on a team I was playing against.
Yeah I might change

Longevity is a huge issue when he only had 3 seasons where he was both pitching well and had a lot of innings. Especially compared to other great pitchers.

Eddie Collins is over-rated IMO... I really don't get why people like him more than Joe Morgan...

Morgan deserves consideration for sure.

Warren Spahn is easily the most overlooked player on many list though.
There is a good case to be made he was the #1 starting pitcher in the modern era.

I think Morgan's peak was better as far as best 2 years (1975/1976). Collins though, had an 18 season prime with a 146 wRC+. He was top 5 in OPS+ in 8 straight seasons, 9 overall. Morgan accomplished that 4 times.

And I'd take Rube Waddell over Koufax.

Most under rated power pitcher of alltime.

Spahn's absurd longevity and durability should not be overlooked. But how many seasons was he the best pitcher in baseball?

Egh, I don't believe that.

5th best outfielder alltime, to me.
Ruth, Bonds, Mays, Cobb?

I don't think that's crazy to put him there, but those guys are all top 10 players all-time in my opinion.

188 wRC+, no one is within 15 points of Williams except Ruth being above him. I think Ruth/Williams are in a class of their own as far as hitting.

Ted Williams was a bad ass and he missed 3 prime time seasons (Between the ages of 23 and 26) for military service

Anything with a plus sign is make believe to me. Not a fan of adjusting reality with hard math.

And yeah, those are the other four.

Bonds is the only guy I'd put in Ruth's class.

1-2 then a drop off.

5th best outfielder ever isn't a dig. He missed a chunk of his prime because he was a damn good American. JoeD and Hank Greenberg take the Patriotic hit too.

Babe Ruth is #1, without much doubt.

Ted Williams is probably #2, his natural ability is off the chart.

Just an example. 1941: .406/.553 on-base, 37 homers. 1942: .356/.499 on-base, 36 homers. Then he misses 3 full years of baseball for world war 2. He comes back in 1946 and doesn't miss a beat. .342/.497 on-base, 38 homers.
