Looks like DiMaggio stole the MVP from Williams both in 1941 (most egregious) and 1947 (almost as bad)

Not even factoring in Berra stealing from Williams, DiMaggio should have 1 MVP and Williams should have 4

However, DiMaggio also missed 3 prime years to war so I think he's properly placed on this list.

I respect that, but I already explained why I stopped nominating him. And I do respect the lack of WAR argument about him, the lack of counting stats matters. It’s enough to keep him from the top 20, a place he will almost surely attain but isn’t yet. It’s not all or none. His uniqueness is enough to get 48 WAR on the top 30 all time list but not enough to get him much higher IMO

His ranking will rise over time, where these others get it wrong is they don’t put him at the right place that accounts for what he has already done and who he obviously is
You keep saying he’s “top 30 right now” but here we are at #29 and you aren’t voting for him.

There are no active players on this top 30 list. Of those still active, maybe you could make a case for Trout, Kershaw or Verlander(?), but I think Ohtani trumps them all.

In another few years, maybe even Aaron Judge emerges in this conversation. He’s got the 2 MVPs and another 7 years on his contract. Not sure I trust him to stay healthy as he ages, though.

Already explained this, but whatever

I agree he already belongs above those 3 to me also

Agreed Judge has a shot at top 40 but will need to do more to get there.

Bottom line (to me) is we simply don't have the tools to properly value Ohtani, he's singular. There's nothing to compare him to besides maybe Babe Ruth.

I guessed you missed the memo on baseball's "unwritten rule" no. 45--If you hit in 56 straight games, you get the MVP

It also helped that they were 5 1/2 out of first place at the beginning of the streak and up 7 games over the Indians when the streak ended…..

Well they both had really great years so let's not lose our heads over this.
One had a much much greater year, go look it up. Also please don’t do the ‘you mad bro’ thing, no one is losing their head here

1941 was close. They both had ridiculous seasons(I guess the 56 game hit streak trumps the .406 season for Ted? We’ll probably never see anyone approach either one again).

1947 was a travesty, though. Williams finished 2nd despite leading the league in basically every category. I’m not sure how DiMaggio won that year. The numbers are not close at all.

They aren't close in 1941 either

Joe D: .357/.440/.643 OPS+ 185, 9.3 WAR, 30 HR 125 RBI

Teddy Ballgame: .406(!)/.553(!!)/.735(!). OPS+ 235(!), 10.4 WAR, 37 HR 120 RBI

Yeah Joe had an epic season, but come on man.

You're right though the delta between them was far greater in 1947, an even bigger robbery.

And I agree on both feats not happening again. Batting .400 is still, like, physically possible, maybe. 56 in row is basically mathematically impossible. Like quadrillion to one. Think how everyone gets excited when someone has a 25 game hit streak...and if it gets to 30 they are top story on MLB TV...no one ever gets to even 40.

WOW what the hell happened in 1947 you are 100% correct. DiMaggio didn't even have a very good year period, forget the comparison.

Looked it up: DiMggio got 202 points in the voting...Williams got 201...and one voter left him completely off his ballot

How about 1942? It seems like Ted was head and shoulders above everyone else that year as well and came in 2nd in the voting.
