I could live with him going to the Panthers.

Honestly it would suck if he went to the Panthers, I understand that they lost Steve Smith but Desean is a legit homerun threat every time he touches the ball and I believe Cam would work well with him. Also it sucks because the Panthers are a major player in the NFC, if they are able to get a WR in FA then they wouldn't have to draft one as early so they could straighten up their OL or target a DB.

It's not ideal, but better than him going to Seahawks. Hopefully he goes to the Raiders. I heard they have been inquiring about him.

I definitely don't think the Seahawks can afford him without risking their future at several positions with Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, etc. all coming up for extensions and looking for big bucks. As for the Raiders, the could trade for him but it doesn't appear that teams want to take on that contract and if he's cut, I truly doubt that he would choose to join a team like the Raiders.

We won't sign him or trade for him, he would cost too much. My guess is if they cut him, Cam Newton gets a new toy.

Uh if he gets cut the Raiders will jump all over him and make him the highest paid receiver in the league. Because that's how they roll.

Why on Earth would he chose to go to the Raiders? I understand that they can pay him a lot but he would be well paid regardless of where he signed including good teams where he would be utilized appropriately. The Raiders are on shaky ground with no QB, possibly another revolving door at HC and possibly a franchise that will move. A guy would have to be insane to sign there when he has contenders willing to pay him handsomely.

$$$ = Pretty good reason

The Raiders have a ton of cap space, and sadly this is not Major League Baseball. They have to use the cap space, and they have pretty much struck out on every Free Agent. I'm not sure what their plan is right now honestly. They can't possibly use up that cap space signing their own guys, and if that was the plan why let two of your young Free Agents walk? The rookies are not going to take up much of your cap either.

What's the protocol for a team under the cap that can't attract players to sign with them?
I would not be shocked at all if the Raiders made a trade for him or waited til he was released and offered him nearly the same contract he had with the Eagles.

The post was mostly a joke to how the Raiders always valued speed during the Davis years. They did take DHB over Crabtree after all.

Raiders, Panthers, and Jets would make sense. Just hope he doesn't go to seattle.

I wouldn't mind Desean Jackson...

but not at the expense of not being able to extend Kap or resign Iupati or All-done Smith.

To me it's all about getting those 3 locked up. The rest are expendable and we can re-fill with the draft.

I would only want Jackson if he gets cut and we can get him at somewhere around the 5 million mark which isn't going to happen.
We have 5 to 6 picks in the first 3 rounds so that should be plenty play around with to grab a speedy WR that can be a return specialist.

The way our offense is constructed we don't need a top tier speed guy (I certainly wouldn't object to one) but just a good one that's talented enough to threaten defenses with his speed. Someone like a TY Hilton for example.

Because even if we get Jackson I believe Roman would incorporate and use him but he's not going to drop the power run game and not use 2 TE, 1 FB, 1 RB, and 1 WR sets.

The only way Jackson is going to take a significant pay cut is if Philly cuts him and no other team wants to take on his salary. The choice then becomes sitting out our playing for less money. Wouldn't want him on the 49ers under those circumstances. He would become one giant headcase

can Seattle fit him in under their cap? I'd think they're looking ahead to Wilson?

This year, definitely. But they're saving up for next year. Other than Lynch, they've got arguably their three most important players up for FA next year. Though we've got probably our two most important.

I thought about this and remembered one thing: Jeff Tedford (former coach of Cal) made a comment about D Jax after he turned pro saying something to the effect of "addition by subtraction" and that Cal would get better after he left.

Those are pretty heavy comments for one of Cal's greatest wideouts of all time. I love D Jax regardless and what he could bring to the table, but his salary demands and his attitude are red flags in this situation.

Perfect. Then we'll get him to improve our offense with the promise that it will further improve when he leaves.
