By the end of last year with a banged up Big Ben, Vick wasn't even dressing for games. That's what we really are down to if you don't want to give up anything.

Kurt Warner wasn't available so they did the next best thing for themselves. Teddy might have trouble getting back before next year. It took Sam 8 games to get comfortable on his knee again. Could be a long time before Teddy can play better than Sam. And then they'll recoup some sort of pick for Sam at that point if Teddy heals fast. Because a lot of coaches think they can use his accurate arm in their offense.

But what's his cost? McCarron is the backup for a QB with playoff hopes, that could be ruined if he misses time like last year again. The #2 for Cincy would then be a 6th round rookie who was cut by San Francisco, and has been with the team for 5 days.

I honestly wouldn't give him up for anything less than a 2nd now, maybe a 1st because of their own situation. And that's for a limited player who had a couple good games.

It is so hard to defend either side. I think they gave up too much to acquire an average QB and I too believe there were equally good options that would have cost far less. However if the Vikings make a deep playoff run, and Bradford lights it up, then props to the Vikings.

Having had front row seats to panic move after panic move for the last 15 years, Smitty probably knows one when he sees one.

The Vikings have one of the better backup QBs in the league in Hill. He gave them time to be patient, consider their options, explore all possibilities, and pick their spot. But instead, they panicked, and severely overpaid for a QB who leads the league in excuses, and is fragile to boot.

And the argument that they had to do something is bullshit, but keep defending the move, because fans are doing the snoopy dance in Green Bay, Detroit, and Chicago.
