-The Giants didn’t make the best offer for a guy like Harper(and they never really do on big name free agents)

My equally fantastical theory is that Correa and Borras were pissed that the Giants bailed and closed negotiations. They immediately jumped to the Mets, so fast that additional negotions couldn’t have possibly happened between the Borras and the Giants.

Correa was offered enough to sign but the Giants got cold feet about his healthy. Judge was offered the same for what he signed for but preferred the Yankees. The thinking was that he was going to stay there regardless how much another team offered him. The issue is more complex than just throwing the most money at a player.

It seems pretty obvious as their organizational philosophy, actually. Look at Chapman and Snell and Conforto and Soler and Cobb and Hicks etc…etc…. Do you have any examples of them giving out the kinds of long-term deals it takes to get the likes of Soto, Harper, Machado or Ohtani(I.e. 10+ years)?
