signing free agents is also part of building a team. The salary cap, especially now, ensure you can't just outspend everyone to buy a championship team. All teams are built, not bought.

Yep. There are several ways to build a team, including through free agency.

Some folks talk about signing FA's as taking the "easy route" without considering that there is more to that than just "signing a bunch of names".

We've seen teams spend a lot of money on a roster and fail because they didn't consider "fit" when signing them.

Yeah, the whole "built not bought" nonsense was always a shot at the Miami Heat Big 3.

That was what....15 years ago?

Seems someone is having a problem moving on from 2010.

And in a way, they are a good example of "names" over "fit".

Lebron and D-Wade were never an ideal fit which cost them at least 1 and possibly 2 titles that they should have won.

Yeah it's clowny to act like it matters how you build a winner

He hasn't moved on since at least 2004 when the Pistons and the League conspired to stop the Pacers from winning it all by making Artest attack a fan in the crowd.

Should have won? Self contradicting, if they weren't a good fit then should they have won?

Not completely true, how much did the Celtics pay in luxury tax last year? I think that may have been the last time we see that to anything close to that level though.

You don’t think winning without paying 200 million in luxury tax is better?
As a fan of teams that have never even made it to the superbowl or the NBA finals I can confidently say I give zero fucks what my team did to win it all. Spending money definitely would have zero impact on it.

A smart fan is going to respect something being sustainable is what I’m saying. Of course you don’t turn down a title under any circumstances.

In a different sport but related to that....

The post 911 Yankees bought every free agent they could every year and have only won 1 World Series in two and a half decades.

Absolutely sustainable is better, but probably the least realistic to expect.

Warriors pulled the 3rd key piece from the second round, more than a little rare.

Thunder next likely dynasty, and how often will you get SGA, Jalen Williams, and 4 more 1sts for Paul George? Your GM keeps making awesome moves on top of that 1 trade as well.

I guess but winning is what matters, the Celtics and the other big spenders can afford it
Well the new owners are not going to afford it any longer. Those days are pretty much over.

Good! I’m glad the last dynasty was the Warriors. Maybe OKC will be the next one.

Well it won’t be with paying $170 million in luxury tax I don’t think lol.

Here are the taxpayers for this year. Phoenix and Minny actually have the most. The Celtics real problems would start next year.

Sure, but if you're going to separate bought from built, that means free agents.
