The NL MVP is more of a no-brainer for me than the AL MVP. It should be McCutchen in a landslide.

when i did my calculations i did not take into account the media darling aspect for the pirates... So due to the fact that it was so close between mccutchen, votto, and goldshmidt i would not be surprised or upset if mccutchen wins... I just dont think he deserves it more than the other 2...

Landslide huh? You must not watch much NL baseball.

Yea, not sure about a landslide. I'd be surprised if someone else wins though. McCutchen's stats are excellent and he has thewhole "leading the Pirates to their postseason appearance in forever" narrative going for him.

It's either McCuthen or Goldschmidt but neither will be a landslide. Im leaning towards McCuthen because his team made the postseason. If Arizona made the postseason then I think it would be more of a landslide.

BECUZ HE DUZNT DRIVE IN RUNS!!!1112

I'd have him about 4th or 5th on my ballot (if I had one) behind McCutchen, Goldschmidt, and Kershaw. Maybe Gomez or Carpenter.

Votto's a great player.

He only had 73 RBI. Good on base numbers but this wasn't even close to a good year for him. He should receive a couple votes but I would be surprised if was in the top 3.

Heck Freddie Freeman should get more votes than Votto.

Huh? He had a 154 OPS+ this year. His career average is 155.

I'd love to have a guy who led his league in OBP in what isn't considered to be his "good years"

Maybe Votto would have had more RBIs if he wasn't being pitched around with RISP? To Freeman's credit, he was a monster with RISP (1.236 OPS in 170 PA). But the other 459 PA matter.

I said his on base was good. His average is down for his standards and his power is down for any first basemans standards. Only 73 RBI for your 3rd bat in the lineup? cmon now.

Under my calculations it goes in order:

1. Votto
2. Goldshmidt
3. McCutchen
4. Matt carpenter
5. freddie freeman

But the top 4 are too close(less than 2 points separating them)...

I dont see why you guys are not mentioning Votto... Just because he had a down year from his past does not mean he does not deserve it compared to the rest of the players...

I guess what im saying is there is little to no chance he gets in the top 3 of the voting. Sure he'll be in the discussion but he certainly won't win it.

Read the edit in my post. The power numbers were down, but he was also being pitched around with RISP. His SLG% was only 10 points lower than Freeman's.

This surprised me a little, but Votto's lowest BA was actually .297. I thought it was around .280 in his rookie year.

Votto plays a pretty good 1st base too

And nobody mentions matt carpenter either... He had an amazing season... but again many are too fixated on the HRs...

Yeah im not hating on Votto. Him, Freeman, and Goldy make a hell of a trio at first base, but this year Freeman and Goldy had better seasons.

And I think Bruce and Phillips both had over 100 RBI so its not like the Reds struggled to score runs.
