This does not matter, and it shouldn't. But, when I checked on his numbers today at Baseball Reference, I see that most of the important "counting numbers" for Votto this year are below his otherwise 162 game avg. So, for me, it is hard to give a guy the MVP when he had an off year based on his past performance.
It shouldn't matter. Every year should be looked at on its own for award voting.
What a player did in 2012 or 2011 should have no bearing on the 2013 MVP award...that's why they give out the award every year..each year is independent, and everyone should start from a blank slate at the beginning of the year.
