Wonder how Banyard is developing?
Told you!!!
Start Teddy!!
I loved the pick when they took Teddy but it's one game let's not get crazy just yet. Atlanta's defense sucks.
I'm not saying that this game alone convinces me he's a future top 5 QB, but thus far, he has shown good solid signs of progression from preseason to the present. Some made it out like he was going to flat out suck, and thus far, he's looking like our best QB prospect in a very long time.
It's waaaaaaaay to early to start talking about how great he's gonna be, there will be growing pains. Let's see what he does when he plays a good defense who has a week to plan for him...
Best QB prospect in a long time? Well, that I agree on since there hasn't been one in decades...
Being a Vikings fan for 40 years has taught be to not get to excited when things look promising...
Don't get me wrong, I really like Teddy. I just hope for the best and expect the worst.
Losing to Atlanta in 98 was the only time I have ever cried because of a sporting event, now I didn't cry my eyes out but my eyes did get watery, that was our year we were so much better than Atlanta and we were so much better than Denver. It's because of that game that I have become such a debbie downer, although I put 100% of the blame on Denny Green!
98 was a true travesty. 09 wasn't much better consider the tease of us moving into scoring position!!!
I just like Teddy and the way he plays. He knows when to run. He knows when to check it down for great gains. He has the arm to throw it. Shame we just don't have much of a deep threat cuz the guy can air it out(actually too far with wright lol).
The one and only positive to no AP is that Asiata and McKinnon are perfect passing game running backs for Teddy. Now if only they could run like AP!!!
It is really sad to think they had a very legit shot at a Ryan Longwell FG to end it in regulation until that awful 12 men in the huddle call. As soon as that happened, I smelled the ensuing Favre pick coming... that idiot Chilly and the rest of the coaches should have sent them out immediately for a bs, safe AP run to kill time, then let Long well have his shot. Easily one of the biggest fails in team history.
To me, 2009 was worse. 2009 presented them with a more realistic chance of actually winning the Superbowl than 1998. Vikings should have had home field advantage - they could easily have gone 15-1 instead of 12-4. They got screwed by a bs call that cost them the regular season game against Pittsburgh, choked in a game that should have been a win in Chicago, and got beat by a shitty team in Carolina because they couldn't handle playing in a little rain outdoors. Even on the road, they outplayed New Orleans big time in the NFC Championship - they gave up 6 turnovers, take away even one of those for 5 and they probably win, make it 3 instead of 6 and it would probably been a spanking for New Orleans. Then, NO proved that the Colts were very beatable that year. The '98 Broncos would have been very tough to beat - only way the Vikes take that game is to score at least 40 points, as Terrell Davis would have lit them up, and John Randle was banged up too for that matter.
The 98 Vikings were the highest scoring team in NFL history at the time, plus they had a pretty damn good defense. Dont know how you could say that the 09 team had a better chance... They didnt. Farve was hot that year, but Farve has always been a hot and cold QB. The defense was 6th in the league for points while the 09 team was 10th. In fact, there were only 2 other defenses better than the 98 defense since 76 and both of them were in the 80s. We havent had a better D than the 98 Vikings since then.
There's no way you could argue that the '98 defense was better than the '09 defense. If anything, the '98 team had the better offense, while '09 had the better defense. The '98 defense ranked 13th in the league, not terrible by any means, but not spectacular either - it was a decent defense that wouldn't lose you many games when the offense was doing well. But, consider how great the '98 O was - surely, the D benefited from that to a good extent. Trade the #1 '98 Vikings O for say the #10 O that year, and that defense becomes worse than 13th in the league. You are implying that the '98 D could somewhat carry an average game, which simply isn't the case. Comparatively, the '09 defense was #6 in the league, and keep in mind all of the rule changes that had gone down by then that made it harder to play defense, and that the '09 defense had a very good offense to compliment it, but nothing compared to the '98 offense. See, even the statistics back up my analysis that I didn't originally resort to stats to back up. The '09 Vikings were a better overall team than '98 when you consider that they had a top 6 D to go with that very good '09 O.
