I already emailed my account manager and she said of course that they feel strongly that there will be no lock out. I asked what happens with my money Ive already paid for next year she said she's not sure what they will do.

The Thrashers sales reps were asking me if I wanted to buy season tickets about this time last year. Hmm...

The owners essentially got everything they wanted in the last CBA (effectively breaking the player's union and getting the players to take a rollback on their salaries) and they still can't make things work? Sorry, I don't have any sympathy for the owners this go-around.

hey mattola ... is it just because we were out first round or does everything regarding season ticket renewals with the canucks seem to be happening much earlier than in previous years.

Our company seat selection night was May 23rd. I cant remember how it was when we got eliminated in first rounds or missed playoffs entirely in prior years

just seems to me like they want their money sooner than previous years

Question: A buddy that I work with says that there's a pretty strong rumor going around that there may be a contract amnesty clause being pushed in the CBA discussions. This would essentially gives teams the chance to opt out of or renegotiate contracts that have a ridiculous number of years attached (DiPietro, Kovalchuk, Bryzgalov, etc). Does anyone have a link to anything on this?

Im sure the NHLPA would try to grandfather in those clauses already in effect. that would be a big fight I think even for the small amount of players. that would fuck pronger good but I dont think Snyder would do that to him. Bryz yeah but not pronger

Haven't followed the negotiations on this much.

Anyone care to fill me in on what the major sticking points appear to be this time around?

the big one is the owners want to go from decreasing the player share of revenue from 57% to what the NBA players agreed to ... 50%

/i think nfl players are around this 50% number as well

Thanks, J & Matt. As soon as I heard this I thought that I missed something big. If the owners do present something like this, I can see the players countering with a young UFA qualification. Muddy waters there.

Seems like that should be easy enough to resolve, but they'll F it up somehow.

I can understand the owners' perspective for sure, since salaries have gone up at a ridiculous pace again since the lockout, and the players position is obvious too, but these guys have got to realize it's in nobody's interest to have another lockout.

53.5% - There, I solved it. Next?

1. Players currently take 57% of league revenues - Owners want to trim that back to closer to 50%

2. Participation at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi - Players want to go, Bettman doesn't

3. Buyout/amnesty clause - Lots of discussion on this one - will it be implemented?

4. Realignment - At some point, Winnipeg needs to move out of the SE division. How will this affect other teams? Divisions/Conferences could look quite different.

5. Age of free agency for players - Players could take a look at modifying this if they take another haircut on salaries.

I'm sure there's several others as well...

That's one thing I think that should be kept. It gives the owners a risk when offering those 8+ year deals just to hid salary from the salary cap.

Agreed. Contracts in the NFL are a joke because of the guaranteed/non-guaranteed crap.

If there's no risk to the team beyond pure monetary risk, it's not going to stop wealthy teams from spending a ton on players and then dumping them only a couple years into the contract.

one that both gms and players agree on is ... picking up salary of traded players ... gms so they can throw money at their mistakes and players so they can stay in the league and not end up like Wade Redden

dont think the owners want this though

You're referring to the idea that if NYR trades Scott Gomez to MTL, NYR may include in the trade that they will continue to pay part of the salary for the remainder of the season or contract?

I could get behind that idea.

i would also think the players want to re-define "league-wide revenues" again since its what is used in appropriating their share of revenue

/expansion fees arent currently included and I heard mention of the rumo(u)r to fold the Coyotes again last week ... fold them and expand to Southern Ontario??? players wouldnt get there share of that half billion dollar fee
