How tough did it just become to market the 2013 NHL All-Star game in Columbus?

Who cares? It'll be the closest thing that they have to a sellout.

Poor forty-three. He will need serious resolve to stomach this deal. Painfully reminded of the Jagr trade :L

Umberger now becomes the main local attraction at the ASG, provided he makes it :noidea:

Shamefully stolen from another board, but I think this is a very good point - As bad as the Nash deal looks, the Carter deal with the Flyers was probably just as bad...

Imagine if you will, a Columbus team that features Ryan Johansen (19), Sean Couturier (19), Jake Voracek (22), Artem Anisimov (24) and Brandon Dubinsky (26)

That's not a bad looking corps of forwards to build on...alas, Cooter and Voracek as well as Carter are no longer in Columbus.

If you're a Blue Jackets fan, you have to hope Jack Johnson turns into the player he was supposed to be, and Erixon and Douglas Murray can be top 4 guys, in which case you some solid building blocks on D.

In the last five days the Flyers have gone from fighting for a division title to serious Cup contender and back, and we haven't even acquired anyone yet.

The Atlantic is having a very interesting offseason.

If you're a Blue Jackets fan you have no hope until they replace their halfwit GM.

I think you are overestimating him by half, who's counting?

Something about the bolded NO HOPE made me chuckle though.

As if this day couldn't get any worse. The Rangers get a lot better, while the Isles attempted to acquire a player who has decided he doesn't want to play for them.

The Atlantic Division is stacked beyond words. My team was going to have a long year before this move was made. Now it just got worse.

If Weber also heads East.....could we consider the East to now be the Windshield and the West to be the Bug? These are questions that will never get answered now. :(

Apparently, Slats called Howson by the wrong first name on a conference call discussing the trade:

Dave Lozo ‏@DaveLozo
Sather just referred to Howson as "Steve."

another Rick Nash fun fact:

career All- Star Games - 5
career Playoff games - 4

more fun facts

Rick Nash, Jay Bouwmeester and Kari Lehtonen were 1st 3 picks of '02 draft.

Neither one has a playoff win.

6 total playoff games between the 3 of them as well. Nash 4 - Lehtonen - 2 - Bouwmeester - 0

I guess I'm alone in thinking that Howson didn't completely crap the bed on this one.

1. Dubinsky is 26 years old and one season (where he wasn't used in a very offensive role) removed from a 54 point season. He was outscored by Nash by 12 points that year while being MILES better in his own end of the rink.

2. Anisimov is a skilled guy with some size. Time will tell if he can figure it all out but he'll score 40-50 points at least in his prime. He is a long term fit on the second line.

3. Erixon will probably never be a #1 defenseman but he'll likely be a second pairing guy for a dozen years or so.

4. First rounders are valuable assets. It'll likely be in the 20s but it should help to restock the cupboard.

It's hard to get full value on stars who are publicly wanting out. It wasn't working in CBUS with Nash as the go to guy. He gets paid like a franchise player but he isn't one. He has exactly one season in which he's scored more than 70 points despite being handed all offensive opportunities. He's a tremendous player but he is NOT the guy to build around.

I think the Rangers look good for the next 2-3 years but I don't think Howson completely shit the bed here. I mean this return might be classified as bad but it's not Scott-Howson-bad, so he's at least got that going for him.. which is nice.
