If you hold out for a better return on a trade for several months, you better get a lot more than that.

Hasn't anyone explained the concept of fair market value to Howson?

Cap hits of Dubinsky, Anisimov and Erixon: $7.825M. Cap hit of Nash: $7.8M.

so we've established Howson used capgeeks trade calculator to make this trade ... maybe he truly does think he still works for the coilers

Pretty sure Howson could have received way more if he would have moved Nash at the trade deadline last season. Oh well.

I am glad that the Bruins did not get into this too much. If they had traded Seguin i would have been Jeff Sly mad

It's gonna be torches and pitchforks time in Columbus - Was Howson waiting for people to renew their season tickets before agreeing to this swap?

Someone on HF:

Scott Howson: "The four pieces we received in trade are good value, but the magic beans are what have me most excited"

I don't even think he'll make it to the start of the regular season, to be honest.

i dont know how they do that really ... ownership gave Howson a mandate to make this deal by not firing him in June or earlier ... I think theyre on board ... and theyre idiots too

They need a priest in Columbus (and not Mike Priest)

I was hoping it would have been DZ instead of Erixon but oh well. I will miss those guys but I am optimistic this trade will work out.

Does anyone think this deal really puts the Rangers over the top?

I sure don't. Now, Nash and Gaborik will be the 15 million per season holding them back if they both aren't potting 45 goals a season, and carrying the offensive touch into the post-season.

Richards and Gabby are no spring chickens, either. Rags have a ton of cap hit dollars tied up in forwards who are in their prime, now... but closer to the end of it, than the beginning.

I know you see the Rangers a heck of a lot more than I do, but I don't know if Erixon will even come close to the game that Del Zotto currently brings to the table.

/Granted, I am biased due to Erixon's screwjob of the Flames...

we'll finally get an answer on the debate whether Nash truly is a primetime player or just a secondary cog at best

is a Gaborik / Richards / Nash line gonna play with 3 pucks? gonna have to wait and see if they can manufacture chemistry

They wanted him to make a trade maybe, but a good one, and he completely blew it. Screw ups of this magnitude are usually the straw that breaks the camel's back with bad GMs. Like Littlefield drafting Daniel Moskos with Matt Wieters on the board still and trading for Matt Morris. Years of incompetence were ignored, but those two screw-ups seemed to have cost him his job.
