If a team’s payroll exceeds the luxury tax threshold 3 times during a 4-year period, it will then have to pay the repeater tax. I believe the new CBA started for the 2012/2013 season which would mean that we are in year 2 of the 4 year period.

We should get under next year, barring Melo or LBJ right?

Blake was an often injured PG who played no defense. Good riddance, any young guy who was semi-athletic would have been a better choice for this team than Blake. Now it's time to try and get something back for Pau, unless he's willing to take a huge pay cut next year.

How do you trade away a point guard when the other two you started the season with are either too old or too injured? good move for Blake....bad move for the Lakers.

Once again, the Lakers FO is all talk and no action come trade deadline.

I understand not wanting to give Pau away, but I am sure there were trade offers made that would've made sense in regards to cap relief/picks (even if they weren't 1st rounders).

Kobe and Pau next season will only keep this team average, nothing more. No sense holding onto him (even at a reduced salary).

And what happened to all the Hill trade talk? Several teams interested and the FO can't manage to make one lousy deal and trade him?

Ugh! This FO is stubborn and clueless. Someone should tell these guys it isn't 2009 anymore. Old Kobe isn't coming back. Now, he's just OLD. And so is Pau. Quit hanging onto the past and look toward the future.

Louie, right now we are still $8.5 mill over even withtrading Blake. That is correct on Pau. The Lakers own the Bird rights to Pau. If we get Nash to medically retire we can use the stretch and finally get under I believe.

The trade for Blake is only going to last a year or two and Blake has already stated he'd come back if the Lakers asked him.

Chris Broussard stated today after the deadline that the Lakers held out for a number one from Phoenix and they didn't want any part of that. Somebody is not telling the truth. At any rate. He is a Laker for the immediate future and may end-up finishing his career in LA.

I tell ya what. If Pau signs for considerably less next year, it's a no brainer. I still think Buss is a moron, no matter what happens!

This team will not be rebuilt in to a Championship team if Jim Buss participates in the decision making process.

I like this.

We still have Marshall and Farmar who hopefully can stay healthy. Who knows, maybe Steve Nash can finish out the season on reduced minutes. Only make sense to get rid of a surplus.

So much for the whole "no one wants to play for the Lakers" bit right Trojan?

I was thinking the same thing. The more I hear/read about Exum, the more I like him. The kid is a legit 6'6", very athletic and while he's listed as a combo guard, apparently he plays point. Lots of ways to make use of his skills.

If he is able to play well right away. I could see a starting lineup for next season of:

PG - Farmar
SG - Exum
SF - Kobe
PF - Kelly or Hill
C - Pau

Then 2015:

PG - Farmar
SG - Exum
SF - Kobe
PF - Love
C - Pau

Thoughts?

I have no problem with this. He was playing well once he found his comfort zone in D'Antoni's offense. Just need him to stay healthy.

Why go for a PG in the draft when we already have two young guys who can dish out 10+ assists every night in the right system.

I'd rather go for a big. Pau is getting older and within the next 2 years or so he'll be useless.

The Lakers could add another big body if they want. Big Baby Glen Davis's contract has been bought out by Orlando and he is FA. I think I'd pick this guy up for his solid inside play and he is definitely a presence in the paint that we definitely need. The only problem we have is cap space and that may be prohibitive for us.

Because he can play more than one position and he would be an ideal fit in the offense. He would be a matchup nightmare. 2 guard/small forward size with PG skills and quickness.

No chance Davis ends up with the Lakers. Seems like a sure thing he goes to the Clips and be with his old Coach. Wouldn't want him here. D'antoni would make him the starting center along with Kelly at PF and piss off the big men Lakers wouldn't trade - Kaman/Hill/Pau.
