Looks like a salary dump to cut the tax bill. If Hill and or Gasol get moved tomorrow, my guess is LA will get under the tax and thus avoid the repeater's tax.

Yea that was a horrible contract that we gave him & at that time we let go of Farmar & Shannon Brown over Blake.

Well restitution has occurred as Blake is now gone in favor of Farmar, Meeks, Marshall, and Kobe. Oh yea, now if they can just convince Nash that is done!

Still don't get the hate for Blake. Dude balled hard for the Lakers. He's a solid pro. There's a good chance he resigns with the Lakers this summer.

Bazemore will be an interesting one to watch. He's a long athletic guard. Definite potential. Not sure about Brooks. He hasn't done much since a promising rookie season. Both will get playing time which they weren't in Oakland.

No hate intended Lakersrule. I was just stating a fact that the Lakers are dumping salaries and re-structuring their financial picture and re-tooling in an obvious tank/re-build year. They are getting way younger and they are prepping for two-three years down the road.

I was really equivocal about Blake. Until this year, he had a tendency to be inconsistent on offense and somewhat non-existent on defense and part of that was due to his role in Don'tknowi's and Brown's offenses and defenses. So he could have stayed or went from my perspective. The Lakers chose to move him for reasons already mentioned.

Don't think there was as much hatred for Blake as there was the idea of getting some of the $$ off the books. It's a rebuild year, let's get ready to make a run next year or in 2 years.

I like Steve Blake, the man played good, hard minutes for the Lakers. It's time for Buss and Co to start thinking about the future.

Looks like Pau survived another trade deadline period. The word is now, they are going to wait and see on Pau, perhaps re-sign him this summer to a lower price and build the team for 2015 around Kobe and Pau.

Nash is going nowhere by trade either. The thing with Nash is Chris Broussard has stated that the Lakers will work with him but the Lakers are planning on the salary stretch option because his physical health is pretty much done. Don't expect Nash back this year much to speak of either. His body is really telling him it is time to retire (medically in his case) and the Lakers are waiting for him to accept that message.

OK, pretty slow on the Bird's Rights stuff, but that's what this is, correct??

I'm really ok with keeping Pau, but did trading Blake get us under the tax threshold??

If not, :wtf2:

Why did we trade Blake again?!? I understand that they were trying to get picks for Jordan Hill and Kaman, but when that falls through you HAVE to sell to get under the luxury tax

They are still in luxury tax territory, but the repeater tax won't hit yet. I think it is four out five years beginning when the new CBA took effect. They will likely be under the threshold next season.

I don't get it either though. They could have gotten below this season and next thus resetting the time frame. I'm thinking their mindset must be that they don't give a shit about the repeater tax. They should. I think they lose their MLE with the repeater tax penalties.

:agree: I'm at odd that they didn't do it. I mean the season is a black hole, makes no sense just to throw away millions over this season IMO. I just hope that because of this next season they don't regret it when they are actually trying to put a good team together & back out because they have to pay a repeated tax that's only going to get even bigger.

In other words Jim Buss is a Genius. :L

Blake was an often injured PG who played no defense. Good riddance, any young guy who was semi-athletic would have been a better choice for this team than Blake. Now it's time to try and get something back for Pau, unless he's willing to take a huge pay cut next year.

Misunderstanding of the rules on my part, my fault....but yeah, it's underwhelming to see us not get under the threshold this season
