Bengals add running back. Clearly Moss is out for the rest of the year or they wouldn't have gotten involved. I don't know a ton about the kid, but it seems like a reasonable add for a 7th round pick.

Bengals twitter is butthurt that we did not add a defender. Looks like they fell for the ole Bengals media leak that they were serious about being players at the deadline. Once we got rid of our 7th, we weren't adding anyone else.

Here's the thing though.... The guys that Bengals twitter were obsessed with are no better than the players on the team. Yeah, Chase Young was a great college player but his recent pro production is no different than Murphy or Ossai. Same for the rest of the garbage on the open market. There is a reason why teams are willing to give away these guys for day 3 picks... They aren't good.

The fact anybody bought the gaslighting by the Bengals beat and FO shows how stupid our fanbase is. They weren’t doing a fucking thing. The only reason the RB trade happened was due to Zack Moss’s injury and having no NFL caliber talent behind Brown. I do find it funny we essentially traded Joe Mixon for 8 games of Khalil Herbert…since they used the 7th rounder from that deal.

Even if they made a deal for a defensive player…Tre White, Chase Young, or Preston Smith weren’t fixing this defense. Going “all in” at the deadline at 4-5 with the worst defense in the NFL didn’t make sense either. The time to make a splash was 2022 when we were healthy, still had Bates and Reader, and had arguably the best team in the league. An extra pass rusher or lineman puts us back in Super Bowl. Maybe wins it.

This was all lip service because season ticket holders are pissed. Same ol’ poverty Bengals.

he fills in a few rolls. he's not going to be the new #1 rb like some of the idiots on facebook are saying.

nice to have him in for those west coast plays where we need a rb to block for burrow. and an option if chase brown needs a break.

down deep, they know the odds are against them and they have to look at things from a business perspective.

Takes 2 to tango, and as @cincygrad already said...what was out there that would drastically upgrade what the Bengals have? I mean, if they wanted to throw a 2nd or 3rd rounder at a team, or multiple ... sure....but don't forget the Cap is an issue as well - and anyone making too much would then need a new deal which could take some guys from 1 year deals into new contracts - Bengals likely didn't want that...and other guys, like Crosby, were likely never available to begin with - even though we wanted them to be.

Bengals always get auction shy when bidding wars start happening.

Would bolster the DB room - history is there, and quite frankly - anything is worth a swing...

No reason not to do it. Having another vet in the room could help a lot as well.

So how bad is Howard now if no team wants him? I mean, if he is slow and not good in coverage anymore, how exactly does that help us? Vonn Bell's experience has not helped us this year. Geno Stone looks like the resurrection of Nick Scott. CTB looks nothing like himself the previous two years. Ivan Drago has speed and that is about it because he always seems to find himself out of position. The only good secondary play is Hilton. We are f'd no matter how you look at this. Who is getting cut for the aged out CB?

Also, I hear the Bengals are trying out Leonard Fournette today as a potential practice squad addition.

I'm reading that the Bengals made an offer but Howard rejected it. I'm guessing that no team is willing to give him much more than a minimum contract at this point. We certainly know the Bengals aren't breaking the bank for a CB over 30. But, his unwillingness to play cheap is probably why some team hasn't at least given it a chance given his prior history.

Yeah, I mean - he can wait around, but it's what...week 11? I mean - either he wants to play or he wants to sit around and "hope" some time matches his salary demands.

Clearly on the backend of his career, or someone would have likely met him at least half-way to what he's asking, if not more.

I’ll be that guy. This was nothing but a ruse to show the fans and media the Bengals front office “tried” to improve.

The Bengals likely knew Howard’s asking price before working him out and offered the minimum anyway. Right or wrong is whatever. Howard clearly has his price and is willing to sit out waiting for a team like the Chiefs or Eagles to call. If that’s the case then why even bother flying him out? Cause he’s a big name. And for about 3 hours people were talking about the Bengals making moves. Total nothing burger per usual.

All this smoke about the Bengals addressing their defense over the last two weeks… and all they managed was two replacement level backup RBs. When Chase Brown has shown he can carry a load and has been balling out.

I will admit. It was pretty funny watching fans meltdown on social media over not signing Leonard Fournette lol. Like that dude hasn’t been fat and washed up for 3 years now. Would’ve been a complete waste of a roster spot.

Maybe - but there was at least history there between him and Lou at some point. It would have filled a need, and sure - maybe they did know his asking price ahead of time, but it's week 10 or 11...and he's sitting on the couch. Maybe coming out for a workout, with a chance to help propel the defense forward (I still think it's a DE/rush DT they need, but whatever)...would change his mind.

It didn't. Maybe it was for optics, maybe it wasn't...but if you're sitting on the couch waiting for a call and it's week 11....the issue isn't the teams offering, the issue is you value your ability/service way too high. This isn't 2019 Howard...or whatever great stretch he had...it's been several years, and if he were THAT good - some team would have signed him for what he's asking for by now.
