would love to nominate a pitcher... but have no clue which one....

Walter Johnson is always the top ranked pitcher of all time... but i hate pitchers from that era... which is also why i pass on Cy young...

I would like to nominate a more modern pitcher, but Roger clemens, has the steroid problem...

then we got Maddux Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez... but not sure if any of those three can be considered the BEST pitcher of all time...

probably need more time to think about this one...

I'd have Aaron & Cobb above Ted Williams. And I'm a Sox fan.

Is anyone sick of hearing me say this?

disagree about Aaron...

Cobb is more debatable... but just like steroid era, people tend to dislike baseball before Babe Ruth...

I didn't see Koufax on the list. I now his career was cut short but in the time he had, nobody comes close.
I like Maddux, consistent, a good argument with Clemens I always felt Tom Seaver was slighted and Nolan Ryan.
Pitchers are a different animal unless you look at Ruth

I've always had Big Train at the top, but I'll reconsider... Matthewson, Koufax, & Gibson also deserve to be in the convo....

And, I just noticed some people are adding Kershaw already! I need to update my analysis...

No because there is good talk in that debate.
Aaron was underrated, but Aaron could do everything, Cobb ?, I like Williams over Cobb, Williams could hit the long ball better.
The problem is every era has a few stars and measuring them against each other is an injustice not just to them but when you chose who was better, it's an injustice to the stars who your picked loser played against

the legend of Koufax is a weird one... he is only seen to be an all time great because he had his 5 amazing seasons consecutively...

all the other all time great pitchers had just as good best seasons... but did not do them consecutively...

I like to add extra names at the bottom of the list each poll just to trigger discussion. Kershaw is hands down a HOFer, but I personally don’t think he should even be mentioned until the 20s or so. Bob Gibson is a name I missed. He should be on the list.

OK I can see that. Koufax doing it consistently for 5 ( disregarding what could have been ) against a more spread out career picking and choosing great seasons from the individual, allowing for a breakdown here and there, stretching the perimeter of judgement surely challenges what I would regard as a great pitcher . Great pitchers ARE consistent and even in a short period of time. Koufax 5 is unparalleled, except maybe some of the earliest pitchers who had long careers and complete games. I'll give ya people like Matthewson, Johnson, Young and Alexander as honest arguments of greatness nd will reserve my opinion concluding Koufax is just as dominant. and ERA capable

Cobb played before the HR era. Hard to fault a player for a strategy that didn’t exist yet.

sure but outside of those 5 seasons koufax was average at best... again, he is an enigma for me... but i do think his legend was over-stated more than anyone else in baseball history(leave room for my dramatic exaggerations)....
