I mean....probably 75% of the guys in the Majors today did them in college, many since HS. Does doing them for 3-4 years and then stopping when you get to the Show absolve you?
That is disheartening to hear. One of the main arguments for getting steroids out of mlb was because of the idea that they could be more dangerous to the overall health of younger people.

I think the money has been the overriding factor then.
A few years ago, my son was All State and All East Texas in baseball. At the honors weekend, they had a banquet where they announced all the Baseball players and the All East Texas HS football team. As each of the football players walked by, my son said dad, baseball was the right call lol. My son was 6'1" and 205 and looked like a dwarf compared to most of those kids. As a guy that's lifted weights my whole life, there's simply no way most of those kids were natural. Just gigantic kids. And all the kids that ive coached that moved on and played college baseball or football said once they get to school, most of the college coaches are aware if not complicit. Bill Belichick just signed for $10M a year to coach at North Carolina. There are kids becoming millionaires right out of HS becoming millionaires on NIL money. The money has driven the usage

Did you ever see Williams play (I did not)? Did he stop the heart of the opposing team when he stepped up the way Ruth, Mays and Bonds did?

Bonds has a WAR7 of 72.8 vs 59.7 for Williams. Bonds has 241 more HRs, 157 more RBI, 429 more runs, 490 more SB, 76 2B, 281 more hits…

Bonds has the WAR7 and the accumulation. He also brought speed AND defense to the table.
Bonds brought decent power when he played defense and had speed. He sacrificed the speed for the power.

Outside of that your biggest argument seems to be that Ted Williams lost 3 years at his peak to WW2.

I think it is probably fair to REALLY look at him in the next poll.
Cobb did stay Musial was the closest thing to a perfect baseball player. Although Musials favorite player was DiMaggio, i think.

The distance between Babe Ruth and 3rd place is probably the same as 3rd place to 20th place.

Steroids made MLB's banned list in 1991. They were never legal

Do I think Bonds was a HOF without the juice, yes. #3 all time, no.

And I'm voting (reluctantly) for Williams because he didn't take a dump on baseball's record book. The singe season HR record was baseball's best. Someone will break Hoss Radbourne's 60 wins in a season before anyone hits 74 homer in a season.
Vincent wanted roids banned, but it was only his desire. Many misinterpret his memo as a decree. Later in life, even Vincent said that his memo should not be taken as a declaration of a rule.

It's a shame they didn't have the foresight to put Old Hoss on an innings limit back then. He was only able to go over 400 IP in 3 different seasons after that........

Yup….and Jim McCormick could only throw more than 500 IP 5x and over 600 IP once……

Probably his cause of death……
Baseball was really dangerous back in the day. Did you know that EVERY player from the MLB in 1900 is dead now? That is tragic!

I'm curious as to what people's thoughts are on Ty Cobb. His WAR is up there with what Ted Williams might have had with a full career.
Cobb probably will come in somewhere like 5th-6th

Sorry, I was busy yesterday and couldn’t officially close this out.

Teddy Ballgame wins this one and is officially #3…

I find it fascinating that Bonds was the loser in the runoff for 2nd best player but Williams pulls off the 3rd best player spot. Logically, you'd think the player with the 2nd most votes for 2nd best player would get the most votes for 3rd best player. But, of course, roids clouds the process.

Ranked choice voting. Never Bonds group pulls from a large group it becomes spread out so Bonds makes top 2, when it gets to 2 they are unified against him.

And few of them are able to get into a protracted defense of their pick against Bonds. That is too bad.

Not that Williams isn’t a worthy #3. I just want people to stand behind their vote.

but this is what my problem is... the pro-bonds people are ruining this voting process because there will always be a bonds run-off...

Bonds has the best numbers, hands down, of anyone remaining. Why don’t you say the anti-Bonds people are ruining it? They are voting against him for purely emotional reasons that don’t rely an anything other than “He was a meany!”

because they only affected the first three votes... the problem is now and going forward... Bonds is going to be in the run-off until he wins...

Just wondering... and just talking optics here...

does it look better if bonds is off the top 10 list all together, or if he wins any spot 4-10??

IMO it looks much better if he is off the list all together...

Which is back to my original point, He was either #1, #2 or off the list...

What reason is there for taking him off the list?

I understand the argument to remove Rodriguez. I understand the argument to remove Rose. I understand the argument to remove Ramirez or Jackson.

But what argument is there for Bonds?

im not saying to take him off the list... although it would help this go smoother... but you are too fixated on semantics and ignoring the emotional end of this... Bonds is the face of the steroid era... he owns peoples favourite records solely because of steroids...

And Aaron owned it thanks to greenies. And Ruth owned it because he was playing against mail carriers and grocery baggers.

If the game didn’t make it illegal, it means they wanted it to increase ass-in-seats.
