According to the OSU handbook this is considered a second offense since is his underage. By their rules he should be suspended for 2 weeks. We shall see.

Welp never mind. Not gonna follow the school rules I see.

Does it really matter? DUI checkpoints are nothing but a show. I'm trying to get home, I'll go around it.

Nothing but a show? They typically net 15-25 DWI arrests per night and deter others.

And again, I am beyond skeptical of your little badass stance because:

(1.) If a DWI checkpoint is set up right, you can't escape it. There should be an unmarked car a block before every entrance and two cars at every entrance. If you try to escape, the unmarked car will pull you over. That's what happened with JT Barrett.

(2.) Going through a DWI checkpoint should never take more than five minutes and usually much less. Anything more than a cursory "Hello, How much have you had to drink tonight?" and ID check is a search and is illegal. But if you try to escape, they have grounds to pull you out of the car and perform fields. So now, it's taking you ten-fifteen at least.

It's quicker to just go through. The people who design checkpoints work very hard to make it that way.

In Ohio, it's actually 0.02 if you are operating a motor vehicle.

:noidea:

That's because cough syrup, etc. can bring you to .01. It's not because minors are ever allowed to drink and drive.

You can just be "cited" for OVI in Ohio? Not straight to jail?

Fellow drunkards, to the drunk bus we're heading to Ohio!

Here's more clarity from 11W: "Athletic Director Gene Smith tells Eleven Warriors because it is a misdemeanor, Barrett is not subject to the mandatory two-week suspension. Smith said the ongoing suspension is up to the discretion of head coach Urban Meyer."

What? So an infraction is an automatic two week suspension, but a misdemeanor (ie something that can put you in jail for a year) allows Urban Meyer to only suspend him for a week?

Is anybody supposed to take your athletic department seriously when they say they care about alcohol? Or really, when they act like they ever do the right thing?

But then you are in Ohio. That's much worse than jail.

Being just barely over .08 is not a big deal.

Clearly you've never known anyone to get hit by a drunk driver.

Absolutely no excuse for him to get behind the wheel.

It's quite ironic he gets 2 games after his comments on FSU and there lack of discipline. Steal crab legs < DUI.

I won't be too harsh on the kid. I got a DUI when I was 21. Of course, the consequences was 5 grand in fines, a night in jail, a years probation and I had to find a different job for a while. He did something stupid and I hope he figures that out.

Meyer on the other hand, I'm not so certain about. Barrett made his shitty decision drunk at least. :noidea:

actually, some clarification: the handbook refers to the OSU testing program (which JT will be subject to under more stringent criteria now). It does not deal with arrests whether they are felonies or misdemeanors. That is why Gene Smith said he would leave the suspension up to Urban and the 2 game suspension does not apply (unless, of course, JT was already in the program, which it appears he was not).

Everyone is reacting as if this matter has been dealt with entirely. My guess is the story isn't over yet.

:L Underage college QB driving drunk and gets DUI in the middle of the night. The world's biggest hypocrite and douchebag gives him a 1 game suspension against Mini-sota.

Did anyone think any other outcome possible? CUMstain is a deplorable human and CFB's stinkiest piece of shit.

What? 15-25 per? You are going to give me a source for that since every link I find keeps saying something similar to this:

"Between Jan. 1 and mid-September, the Ohio Highway Patrol conducted 135 sobriety checkpoints, which resulted in 222 operating a vehicle while under the influence, or OVI, arrests. That represents 0.4 percent of all vehicles checked for impaired drivers, according to a CentralOhio.com investigation of patrol reports."

I also didn't realize not wanting to go through a checkpoint is trying to be a badass. I'm just trying to get home after work as quick as I can.

Yeah, story can be over yet. There's no way CUM can be this much of a hypocrite and not feel heat from somewhere. The Board at OSUx can't be completely without self-respect or embarrassment...can they?

FSUx and OSUx should just merge and become the CFB Axis of Evil.

Well nor to point out the obvious here but JT also isn't even old enough to legally drink period. The driving makes it exponentially worse but does the fact he's only 20 add any other charges here?
