You're spot on, Wamu. Here we have almost an entire thread trying to justify what Barrett did. Really? Suppose he was intoxicated enough to kill someone close to you. Are you going to try to justify blowing a .08 then?
Please don't overstate it. There are a few people who think the limit is too low but I haven't seen too many people defending Barret for driving after drinking.

It seems to me that Ohio State was pretty lucky to escape with at least a couple of its wins.
And we're not acting arrogant about them. Not sure what OSU had to do with your post...

I was replying to someone who was suggesting that Michigan fans were acting pretty arrogant for "barely escaping" a loss at Minnesota.

taking away the summer scholarship seems slimy while only suspending him 1 game

That was me, and you were. Someone said Minnesota was going to honor Kill by winning out and you rather arrogantly dismissed it. That was my point - you guys were extremely lucky to win, so I wasn't sure why you needed the arrogant response.

Post 212 sounds like it is defending him.

The main points were:
1) he was operating a vehicle while intoxicated (by law)
2) he is underage

1 games seems a little lenient

So Urban Meyer is Above the Line, and his quarterback was Above the Limit.

He's also taking his scholarship away for a term next year (that ain't cheap for out of state tuition). Ask a player if he'd rather miss an extra game of have to find a way to come up with several thousands of dollars for school.

Don't overstate things. It's summer term, he probably won't take more than a class or two, and he has the opportunity to earn it back before the term starts.

Based on what standard? The only coach I could find that suspends a player for more than 1 game on the first offense is Mark Richt at Georgia.

I didn't read that as him saying he can earn it back before then, I heard it as he can earn his scholarship back after that term is done. Did I get that wrong?

If anything I find his punishment with taking away the scholarship was a bit harsh. Wonder if that has anything to do with it coinciding with the week he went on national television and said he would't play a guy who stole crab legs because he is above the line.

I heard on ESPN radio he could earn back his starting job at quarterback, not the scholarship.

Doubtful, since he did the same thing to two senior starters a couple of years ago for getting caught peeing in public in an alley late at night then running from the cops.

If the only lost it for one term, why would he have to earn it back. Makes no sense.

That doesn't mean he was doing something significantly dangerous. He's a grown adult, so it's not like it matters that he's 20 and not 21 in terms of how dangerous the actions itself was. Besides, 21 is a bullshit legal drinking age anyhow.

looks to me like he is attacking the law - the limit is so low it isn't really dangerous, which I disagree with, but understand the sentiment; the drinking age is too low.

I have read some people trying to excuse what he did. That's a shame. He screwed up, got caught, has been punished, and will hopefully learn from his mistake.

Makes about as much sense as taking it away and then saying he can earn it back again.

Seems to me like he has been stricter since leaving Florida. After he burnt Florida down he learned from it and began to crack down harder.
