Athletic paywall, but here is the gist of re-ranking the players drafted in 2023
Pronman can be a hit or a miss for me, but I thought the list was interesting.

Player - 2023 position - redraft position
Bedard (duh) - 1-1
Michkov 7-4
Bonk 22-16
Zavragin 144-63
Sotheran 135-82
Ciernik 120-93
Bjarnson 51-114

Missing Barkey 95, Knuble 103 (the list stops at 123)

All in all, 5 players picked higher than they were and 3 players went lower.
Zavragin obvioulsy the highest riser and Bjarnson the biggest drop. They're both goalies, so a wash?
Don't know much about Sotheran.

Obviously too early to tell, but encouraging for future drafts?

After watching game 2, I think we may need a new back up goalie. Nothing I've seen from this guy screams solid net minder.
No biggie 2nd game after playing the night before we didnt look sharp or didnt look like we wanted to stand up to them physically.

First goal was a fluke actually i thought it shouldve been called no goal.
There was a 5-3 goal
An empty net goal
and a couple where he was just left out to dry.

I dont think he is that bad for a back up goalie. Time will tell.

Denver Barkey is on the list 95-96

I think Poehling is better than Cates and should be in the line up.
Couts bumped to 3rd line which is about where he should be.

Tippett-Frost-Michkov
Konecny-Luchanko-Foerster
Laughton-Couturier-Brink
Deslauriers-Cates-Hathaway

York-Sanheim
Johnson-Drysdale
Zamula-Ristolainen
Andrae-Poehling

I agree, poehling is a better player, yet since you have him paired on defense with Andrae, let's see how he does.:dhd:. The other problem with moving coots is he's not as fast wont keep up with Brink and maybe laughton. Still think it sucks Brinks offense is stuck just on a line with 2 non offensive dudes.

Could have had an assist too. Nice pass from behind the net between the goals.

Well, anyone not sold on Michkov can officially retract and hop back on the bandwagon.

In just one period at Edmonton, the phenom has two power play goals, scored two completely different ways.

He jammed Skinner's pad off the post and the puck trickled over the line for his 1st Nhl goal (it was challenged and confirmed). Dirty, but good. You have to admire his strength and determination, especially for a rookie. His 2nd was an absolute snipe from further away, but the same side of the ice. Both goals were on the power play, where we have struggled for a long, long time.

This is incredible to watch.

Off topic, but when I tuned in to ESPN to watch this game, Minnesota goalie Filip Gustavsson was catching a dump-in late in his game. He dropped it quick and fired it into the empty net 200 feet down the ice. You don't see that everyday...Lol

It will go down as a 3-4 OT loss, but that definitely should've been a win. I still come away more encouraged than anything else. This is because a lot of our kids gained huge experience against what was a top team last season and already a very desperate team this season. Michkov netted his first couple of Nhl goals and our power play went 2 for 7, largely due to him. Tippett just barely missed on what would've been a couple highlight reel goals. Luchanko could've easily had his 1st Nhl goal too. Brink scored, but also took a penalty and made a big mistake on a goal against. Farabee and Couturier both got into scraps.

We could definitely stand to win more faceoffs, aside from that, we went toe to toe against an experienced, desperate team that has a few superstars in their prime. I don't think our kids got rattled at all, we just didn't quite have enough finishing or clutch gene in the end. We have a ton of potential. The Oilers are getting old.

We will take the point and move on, but more importantly, I think we will take the lessons learned by our youngsters and improve from that.
