Big, come from behind 3-2 win on the road, and also against a team that had already played a game a couple days earlier. Obviously, Ersson shut the door frequently throughout the 1st period and again late in the game (and shootout) to give us a chance. Konecny scores a clutch shootout goal to avoid what we all probably considered to be an inevitable SO loss. Frost then came in nice and slow and just sniped one low glove on Lankinen (who was out of place) for the W and the critical extra point. Huge reaction from Frosty, his teammates and everyone on the bench too.

Foerster and York had beautiful snipes in regulation to keep the game close and then to tie it late. Believe it or not, our power play ends up 1 for 4, or 25%. It's early, but that would be a massive improvement over last season's pace (more than double).

Ersson definitely stepped up to the plate and saved our bacon last night. We need to support him more and I think we started to rectify that in the 2nd, 3rd and OT. He then stops 4 of the 5 Canucks in the shootout and amazingly, both Konecny and Frost were able to beat Lankinen, who was also pretty good throughout the game.

Tough game for our youngsters, but I think that can be expected. Guys like Luchanko and Michkov just need to keep after it and the pay off will eventually come. Michkov already has vision, anticipation and passing abilities (overall offensive awareness) that we perhaps haven't seen on this team since Forsberg nearly 20 years ago. And by that time, Forsberg was pretty much in the twilight of his career and not the player he once was. This kid is still 19 years old and the sky is the limit. It's an exciting time, for sure.
Really liked the improvement on the Power Play. Spot on analysis Maverick, as usual.

We got our lunch handed to us in the back-to-backer in Calgary. I suppose the young team has not adapted to those types of schedules just yet.

Looks like the Tkatchuk/Huberdeau trade has finally paid full dividends for the Flames...Lol

Seriously though, it's difficult enough on a west coast back to back, but perhaps a lot more when our backup has a bit of a rough outing, the first goal against is a total fluke, shoulder-shrug bounce off a pass from behind the net and the next two Calgary goals were courtesy of a couple 5 on 3 power plays.

With all due respect, these are the types of unbalanced games you expect to see early on in the season where you don't know what the refs are going to call for the vast majority of the game.

Nevertheless, Konecny gets his 1st shortie of the season and also finishes a nice passing play from Frost and Michkov on the power play in garbage time to give the rookie his 1st Nhl point. Michkov to Konecny for a goal could definitely become quite the common theme throughout the season.

All of that said, it's easy to hate the fucking Flames with that piece of shit Kadri on their roster. He's probably right up there with Tom Wilson as one of the most annoying guys in the league to play against.

Also, Fedotov appears to still be adjusting to the Nhl game a bit. Ersson looked very sharp in game one and I assume that we're going to ride him while the big Russian figures things out.

After watching game 2, I think we may need a new back up goalie. Nothing I've seen from this guy screams solid net minder.

I think that's a bit of a premature overreaction. That was Fedotov's 4th Nhl game and 1st of the season. Sure, Ersson has outperformed him and taken control of the net through one game, but that's all this is, to date.

The fact that the 1st goal against was a fluke bounce off Huberdeau's shoulder and the next two were vs. 5 on 3 power plays was not at all the fault of Fedotov. Does he still need to adjust more to the Nhl game and speed? Probably, but he's either going to get there this season or he won't. I think we have the ability to at least be patient with that process and hopefully he will be a quick study. He is a huge body and size is one thing you can't teach. Once or if he figures out the Nhl, you just don't know where he will land, but let's give him a chance here.

I'm not saying start Ersson every single game, but he should definitely have the inside track to the starting job, despite being the younger (and cheaper) player. Sam has already started 60 Nhl games across 3 seasons too. He's well-adjusted to the game. The dude looks confident and is performing at a pretty high level.

That and fuck Kadri...Rofl He should get called for unsportsmanlike diving. Fucking pussy!!

Also, those referees need to learn that you don't call two penalties against a team at the same time unless it is especially egregious. Fucking bush league!!

He's just a giant haha

But Kolosov is with the Phantoms at least for the time being. I would think Fedotov gets a long run based on the money they're paying him to be here, but if Kolosov is on a timeline and plays well while Fedotov struggles, I wonder how quickly they'd make the switch.

Eh, second game of a back to back after an emotional OT shootout win.
And they're on the west coast.

They looked tired in the 3rd period when the floodgates open.

I agree with your assessment, however I'm just saying he doesn't look comfortable in net. Maybe he can't adjust to the speed of the NHL, I'm willing to see him go for a few more starts and see what happens, I'm just saying we may need an option C. Hopefully the one that has mental health issues will see some time too.

Yea like I said though. Dude has looked stiff, might not be a bad idea to have a plan C.

Wasn't Kolosov predicted to be the better of the 2? I honestly can't remember.

I don't either haha. I'm not really worried about the G position at all tbh. I think Ersson is a capable NHL starter, if not more. Kolosov is a pretty good prospect. Bjarnsson is a good prospect. And Zavragin is off to a ridiculous start in the KHL after a good season last year too. A lot of paths to success over the next few years in net.

Center and D though? I have a lot of concerns. If the Avs and Oilers want to stay in the basement all year though, that could make a pretty sizeable dent in those concerns!
