Bottom line, we are getting at least 3 of these players....

Actually, I need to amend this.

Based on the current league standings, we are potentially getting 6 of 39 picks right now if the draft went to chalk.
Those second round picks from Anaheim (Cutter) and Columbus (Provorov) might prove fruitful.

Given our lack of juice, I don't think it cost us the game, but the officiating was terrible in this one too. It just leaves an extra, sour taste in your mouth. Several blown calls. Laughton was hooked on the hands on a breakaway. Could've absolutely been a penalty shot. Wasn't even called a minor penalty...Lol Michkov was hacked and interfered with by Gallagher with no puck in sight. All that they got was the retaliation. There were definitely other instances.

I'm not blaming the refs for the loss, but it just adds to the annoyance of the team collectively not having enough jump on home ice.

Eh, I'm not sure what happened with the Couturier/X guy in the first period, but Seeler not getting a 3rd man in was an interesting choice.
I mean, technically, they didn't fight, so I was a bit surprised that no Flyers received a penalty.

We need to strike gold in this summers draft. All our chips are in with 6 picks in the top 60.

Man it would really be nice if Fedotovs contract was only for one year and not 2. we could use that $3.275 million next year.

If they end up with 6 of the first 39 picks that would be amazing. Fingers crossed!

The question is: With the potential top picks, will they pick the best-player-available or will they eff-it-up like they did in last year's draft and take some less-than-optimal player with those top picks?

If they pick 6 goalies, we can discuss further.....

But truly you can't even say that, because we don't know what Luchanko's ceiling is, I'm keeping my fingers crossed he becomes a solid 6 guy. He definitely has speed and weve needed that for awhile now. I'll give him a couple years to see if he was worth it or not.

As long as we aren't picking goalies in the 2nd and 3rd round again we should be ok.

Yep. I'm certainly skeptical right now given the scouting reports of guys like Buium who were available in that Luchanko slot. But hopefully the scouting staff has some skill and Luchanko ends up being a good pick. I like that he at least has high end speed. They need guys with skills that pop, can't just build a team full of 200 ft guys and Michkov. He's going to need help generating offense.

Well, nothing really happened in that scrum. It was initiated by Montreal and I thought the previous hit by Couturier was as innocent as they come. The guy just narrowly avoided getting absolutely clobbered, but the hit was legal. No forearm or elbow extended and no intent to injure. The puck was right there. It's a legal body check and the player just acted as if it were a cheapshot. Totally fake and the Habs overreacted. Coots is not a dirty player anyway, that much we know.

I can't wait until the damn officials (generally speaking) finally figure out what is actually a penalty and what isn't, then call it consistently on all teams.

Among?

They are the worst when it comes to Goals Against Expected.
They're like a -11 or -12.
Next team is -8 or 9.
I was looking at last years games, it's no doubt that without Hart for the 1st half of the season, It's unlikely we would have even been in the playoffs race. Errsson thrived when he had no pressure and the team seemed to really rally behind that. The other thing that happened was we were able to move the puck more quickly and efficiently out of our Dzone, Not happening this season. Zumula and Ristolinan are both pretty much big nylons, they cant skate very well so they panic and try to shot up the boards. Also Drysdale should not be playing with Johnson on defense, while EJ is solid for the most part, he's slower and has a problem getting the play started.out of the Dzone. This is just my opinions, maybe I'm not seeing it correctly.

Agreed.

Their defense isn't very good and that's putting a lot of pressure on the goalies.

Still, it's a relatively young core, so keep giving minutes to York/Drysdale/Zamula/Andrae (all 24 or younger).
Seeler and Sanheim are the long term guys.

Attard/Ginning/MacDonald/Grans are all 6' 3" or bigger with the Phantoms, so maybe one of those guys takes a step.
Unfortunately, it looks like the Phantoms aren't very good.

We also have Bonk in the pipeline.
D-man might have to be our first pick in the draft next year, or 2, maybe 3 of those 6 picks could be on D.

One note on this assessment. Its going to be really tough to have 3 really small defenseman (York, Andrae and Drysdale) in the line up consistently. That has to be something Briere must address.

I love Bonk he will be on this team next year and for a long time barring injury.

I dont think Attard has a future with us however i saw McDonald and Grans play this year. i really like McDonalds style of play he needs to get a lot better skating wise if he wants to come up to the big club and stick.
