You know I keep thinking about Chase Young. Hes a cant miss generational talent.

So was garret, and bosa, and chubb. Dont get me wrong garret and bosa are monsters, chubb is very very good.

But wasnt clowney also a cant miss? hes been good, not great.............Theres always a chance these guys can miss............

Definitely, there's always a chance whether it is caused by injuries or just under producing. IMO you always have to go with the greater odds.
Could they trade down and hope Simmons is there? Definitely, they could to acquire more picks but the odds of him becoming a star is less than Chase and then what if he isn't there at 5.

Lets just look at the last 10 years, as far as "Edge rusher-- star/PB player in the making"...well at least by the experts, what they did in college and the combine grade.

2019 - Nick Bosa
2018 - Bradley Chubb
2017 - Myles Garrett
2016 - Joey Bosa
2014 - Jadaveon Clowney
2011 - Von Miller

I mean I would say so far, either the player is too young to judge or these have been a force in this league. Clowney is probably the only one that has under produced to this point imo and 3 PB's in 6 years

No your right they have produced. But eventually ones gonna be wrong. Your right play the odds.

I guess my issue is more with terminology. Especially after you listed things.

these aren't all generational talents. You can't have a generational talent each year.

True, not generational types but that is a different level we RARELY see. Some say Chase Young is the best of the last 20 years...that could be labeled as "generational type"...I don't think Von Miller was even labeled that. But imo I wouldn't label Young as that, I see him being a great player and All-PRO guy that has a very high ceiling but he needs to work on some things. I thought Garrett was more NFL ready than Chase.

So was Clowney supposed to be a generational type of player? I honestly can't remember, I know he was an unanimous #1/great player. That's the only one I can think of recently but that was bc of coming out of HS being so great then having a great college career...

As far as combine grade, none of those players I listed were "generational type players". Andrew Luck was like the perfect prospect/generational type. I can't remember the last non-QB prospect that was in that discussion though...like I said, maybe Clowney

I swear there was similar hype to bosa, Clowney, and garret. But I'm likely wrong. Do you have the combine grades for them?

I think all were between 7.0 and 7.5. I guess Garrett and Clowney could have been labeled as that.

well good to know, i guess i have the grading wrong, but even at that were still talking at least 2-3-4 "generational talents"

Think I agree with shane. while I do recall Garrett being the "no-brainer" #1 choice, I don't recall generational talent attached to him.

But agree in general that term is used too much.

The knock against Nick Bosa last year was his lack of on the field action, imo. I think Chase Young's grade is basically the same as his which is pretty stellar.

If you try doing the 'one in a generation' stuff then you might get a little carried away. Quinnen Williams was getting Warren Sapp comparisons and sometimes you just end up on the wrong team.
