For this season yeah. But we still need to find the guy.

You should have your best players closest to the ball at the snap.

I very much need to see an All Pro at OC again.
Well if Pickett flames out in 4 years & Linderbaum is all-pro then I'll take a looooong look in the mirror

Well, I fell off the Linderbaum wagon myself after the Combine identified him as a midget.

At least our 7th round pick could pay off some day......In an arena league.....

You bite your tongue... I'm ready to order a statue of Oladokun if that man pushes Mason off the roster

Yeah I don't know what to expect with C. I've heard good things about Cole though. Like Moore a lot at one T spot. Definitely room to grow on this line (or implode).
Tyler Lindenbaum was there at 20. Just saying.

Who would you rather have if you were picking them today as rookies, the QB or the C?

Ben Roethlisberger
Maurkice Pouncey
Given that we desperately needed a QB in the first round in 2004, 100% Ben. We didn't need a QB in the 1st this year, which is why I disagree with the Pickett pick.

Stop using semantics to evade the question. This doesn't involve years. You have a gaping hole at each position. What do you take?

I'm not using semantics. If I have a need at QB, I take the QB. We didn't have a need at QB this year so I wouldn't have taken the QB. It's pretty straightforward.

As you can see, I clearly answered the question. It's not semantics or dodging the question. It's called context. If we needed a C but not a QB, I'd take Pouncey. If we needed a QB (which we did) but not a QB, I'd take Ben.

We didn't need a QB in the 1st, we needed a C, hence why I have the opinion I do about picking QB in the 1st.

How was that answered?

@Bridgeburner

Let me lay this out because apparently something isn't connecting right. If there is a need at QB, you take the QB. But there wasn't a need at QB this year to use a 1st round pick on.

Stay with me here…

So in 2004 you say they “desperately needed a QB”… So Ben was the right choice

So would it be too far outta line to then shift this conversation to comparing Mitch Trubisky & Tommy Maddox?

Because what do you define as “desperate need” at QB?

Now before you go rushing to Wikipedia to spew a 6-10 record consider this… Although the Steelers were coming off an abysmal 2003 season they were still only 1 year removed from a 10-5 season & a division round loss to the Titans in 2002. Not to mention the injuries that plagued the 2003 season. Nobody was “convinced” Maddox wasn’t the guy. Not even he was led to believe he wasn’t until Ben was drafted.

And before you start spouting stats please keep their eras of football in mind… Maddox played during the run-first Bettis years so of course his stats won’t give you a hard-on.

We had a bigger need on the O-Line, in my opinion. We could've gotten Ridder in the 2nd, he was the best QB in most combine events and also would've allowed us to grab some improvement for the protection of our QB. Not to mention, we are paying Trubisky almost $7 million this year and $8 million next year. In my opinion, we shouldn't be paying that much for a backup QB.

In 2002 was Kordell's last full year as the starter. Maddox went 7-3 in 2002 and then 6-10 the year before. We were looking for a QB in the 2004 draft, there is no arguing that. We should not have been looking at QB in the 1st this year, in my opinion.
