We had a bigger need on the O-Line, in my opinion. We could've gotten Ridder in the 2nd, he was the best QB in most combine events and also would've allowed us to grab some improvement for the protection of our QB. Not to mention, we are paying Trubisky almost $7 million this year and $8 million next year. In my opinion, we shouldn't be paying that much for a backup QB.

In 2002 was Kordell's last full year as the starter. Maddox went 7-3 in 2002 and then 6-10 the year before. We were looking for a QB in the 2004 draft, there is no arguing that. We should not have been looking at QB in the 1st this year, in my opinion.
$7-8m IS backup QB money.

2004… Yes they wanted QB, but did you know Ben was tabbed 3rd string heading into the season? If it weren’t for a late preseason injury to Charlie Batch, we may have never seen Ben in his rookie season.

So if a team drafted Ben to be a 3rd stringer & to sit back & develop… then was QB really that high of a need? He was never given the chance to take Maddox or Batch’s positions on the depth chart.

Pickett was drafted to compete for the starting position. That should tell you all you need to know about what they think of their need at QB this year.

I know what they think of their need at QB, obviously, because they drafted one in the 1st. I don't agree with it though.

I know its unfair to compare the 2 given what Ben had to deal with... But still fun nonetheless

I don't really know what happened to Ben's deep ball accuracy. The arm strength didn't seem to be shot like his legs but he couldn't land those throws.

Legs play a crucial role in throwing mechanics. Which I believe played a big part in why his accuracy suffered. He really had to labor those deep balls.

That and his mental clock was always frazzled behind that OL

Good points. I hadn't really thought of that.

I'm onboard with Trubisky as the starter. I really don't like the idea of putting Pickett out there behind this dogshit OL even if I think he would still play well. My biggest fear is this OL is going to get someone injured. I'd much rather see Pickett play hero in that scenario. Because at least then he could still have confidence if he doesn't live up to the hype because he's being thrust into a crap situation, whereas coming in & struggling with higher expectations would be harder to recover from.

Don't make Pickett the starter. Right now MT is the better QB. I think without a doubt he should get some playing time this year. But not week one.

Have to laugh... Still don't understand how so many people believed he was going to be the best option over Pickett.

Propped him up. Its become very clear over the last 5 years fantasy guys and most main stream guys have the draft so wrong.

Overvaluing combine/athleticism IMO. People get way too enamored with the gym freaks

No QB from last years draft will amount to much, IMO.
