TO me, the Pens have received:
B. Morrow
D. Murray

and given up:
J.Morrow
2013 5th rd pick
2014 2nd rd pick

(the 3rd rd the pens received from dallas is basically the 2nd rd they traded to SJ, just a few spots will be between them)

And based on the number of players, the Pens are not finished yet, either more trades or simple reassignments.

I wouldn't mind seeing Boyle and Clowe traded this year as well. The Sharks need to rebuild and I think those are the only two guys without full NTC's that the Sharks should be willing to trade who could also bring back a reasonable return.

I would love to see Marleau or Thornton go but the prevailing thought is that they will not waive their NTCs.

Yeah, Murray is an awesome dude and I wish he could still play in the role Sharks coaches thought he could play (read: he was horribly mis-used, paired with Brad Stuart all the time, which was a fucking disaster.. didn't expect such horrendous stubborness/bad coaching from Larry Robinson, of all people).

As long as the Pittsburgh coaching staff realizes his shortcomings (can't skate, moves slow) and uses him for what he is (great shot blocker, moves/hits bodies if he can get to them), he'll do well.

Good luck to him on the Pens, I hope he does well.

I did find this freaking funny from @DownGoesBrown:

“Based on the acquisitions of Morrow and Murray, I think it’s safe to say the Penguins are going all-in on winning the 2010 Stanley Cup”

:spit:

A Stars blog mentioned that the Stars are looking to extend Jagr.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: More on Murray deal: the 2nd pick in 2014 based on Pitt winning 2 playoff rounds OR resigning him and if neither occurs, it's a 3rd in 2014

For fun, let's say Pittsburgh makes it to the ECF and then ends up paying out both 2nd rounders.

Then let's assume that they will be picking in the bottom third in both drafts (>50th overall).

This is a list of the NHL regulars who've been picked in that bottom third of the second round between 2001 and 2008:

Thorburn
D.Keith
Stajan
Hudler
Boychuk
Fleischmann
Pominville
McClement
Budaj
Crombeen
O'Sullivan (was once anyway)
Lapierre
Backes
Booth
Dubinsky
Goligoski
Krejci
M.Raymond
MacQuaid
Lucic
McBain
Galiardi
Spaling
Simmonds
Stepan
Hamonic

The bolded players play, or have played, in the top 6 forwards, top 4 D or been a starting goalie.

With those two picks the I'd Sharks stand a very decent chance to get a quality NHL player. Doug Wilson got good value for Murray, IMO.

I like the joke in the comments section - Murray is so slow he won't arrive in Pittsburgh for two more weeks.

:drum:

/If Douglas Murray was in a race with a pregnant woman, he'd finish 3rd.

I 100% agree. The Pens do have that extra 3rd (high-ish) pick from Dallas, which helps. And the 5th they traded they got back from Tangradi.

Also: RDS reporting the Pens still want Iggy. Gosh. I know a roster Dman would go back. Still...the forward corps would be ridiculous.

@ToddCordell: Dreger on TSN radio: Briere to Montreal for a draft pick could happen if Briere is healthy & willing to waive his NTC. #Flyers #Canadiens

He has 8 days to get healthy. He'd DEFINITELY go to the Habs...that's my guess as a Frenchie. What's the cap sitch up in Montreal?

Careful, RDS has been known to throw feces against the wall to see if any sticks...

True, but I could Shero doing what I presume Boston was...stay in the game to drive up the price. Feign interest, put an offer out, make Boston sweat it out a bit.
