You might want to wait until you see him play regularly before making that estimation.

It's a depth move, he's not being brought in to fix the D, he's a big body, can block shots and kill penalties. He's on the bottom pair, maybe 7th guy. It takes Engo out of the lineup. They play similar games, but I'd wager Murray hits harder and smarter.

Also, I'm quite pleased to see Douglas Murray fetching two 2nd round draft picks. Feaster better be working the phones.

Apparently, one is conditional on him resigning in Pittsburgh.

Yes, besides the Pens will have Kris Russell, Zdeno Chara and Jack Johnson soon.

Can we get a Rossi smiley? Like a smiley with a typewriter and a dunce cap.

Will work for Brooks or Garrioch as well.

Seems like a lot to give up for sure.

Despite his great play of late and the Sens looking like a playoff team, I'd be looking into the possibility of moving Gonchar. If Murray can net two 2nd rounders, what could Sergei bring back? :omg:

Even so. Based on what I've seen of his play this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a healthy scratch often down the stretch.

Possible, since the Pens have like 9-10 defensemen now.

I really don't know who the Pens sit out now. Orpik, Martin; Letang, Engelland; Niskanen, Eaton; Despres, Bortuzzo, Murray. So...we have nine. Someone has to be moving.

Another point some have mentioned: Shero may have overpaid a bit on both deals, but he sure set the market higher than Boston and others would like.

Wow two 2nd rounders for Murray. Even if one is conditional I am surprised. He is built like a brick shit house and has a high compete level but none of that makes up for his complete lack of foot speed (and by extension his inability to be in position).

I wish you the best of luck in Pit Douglas.

What is the condition on the other 2nd rounder if he doesn't sign? Does it just drop off the table or does it become a lower round pick?

2nd in 2014 becomes a 3rd if he doesn't resign or Pens don't make it to the Conference Finals.

And now people saying that the Pens may still be in on Iggy. Um. I don't know...that there's any room?

I would not be surprised to see that scenario play out, unfortunately. Might end up moving Bennett down, too if Ray doesn't make a corresponding move to open up a spot for Morrow on the 23-man roster.

Thanks Pix, to expand on Murray's game:

He blocks shots and will log time on the PK but don't expect much from him even strength except for the occasional big hit and clearing the front of the crease if he can get there before the play is over.

Against fast teams he is an absolute liability. Hopefully the change in scenery will motivate him to pick his game up.

A great pickup if you happen to meet the Ducks in the Finals, otherwise a nothing to see here, move along type deal.

Honestly, that's all the Pens need. He won't log big minutes. He's a third pair guy. I could see him working well with Niskanen. Nisky is a puck mover, has speed. Murray can hang back and let Nisky do the speed work. He's something the Pens are missing on the back end. I do think it's a bit of a high cost, but that's the market, the Pens have the assets to make moves and are doing it. Along with perhaps setting the market. I like moving now before it becomes a bidding war.
