I disagree with best available when you have 2 young catchers in Trevino and huff who look promising.

we need a really good position player to fill a hole in our lineup or a pitcher who projects to be a good major league starter at #2 overall.
I think our position players are pretty solid and set.I would go after pitching. Remember we don't need a catcher but lots of other teams do and might give a lot to get him from us.

from what I’ve seen...... teams are reluctant to trade prospects lately. The draft is the best way to get out of this. Get the prospects yourself and develop them.

You can only get one pick at a time in the draft. If we get that catcher, you can bet some team wants him now and lf JD is careful he can get a lot more for him than we will get in the draft. Understand I am not advocating the catcher

We really need to focus on pitching. We supposedly have guys coming up the ranks and some who played this year that could help us in the field. But you need to load up on pitching in hopes that you have a stud or two wash out of the group. You look at a team like Tampa Bay and look at their lineup and you think how can they win? Pitching. The White Sox with Giolito and the Indians with Bieber who did lousy tonight, Gerrit Cole and so on. We lost to the Cardinals who had one pitcher who won 3 games.

We should have beaten the Cardinals with CJ, Harrison, Holland, and a guy we traded for midway through the season. The centerpiece of that trade was a hitter, Smoak. We had three pretty good pitchers and a guy we got by drafting a good hitter. What we really had going for us was Beltre, Hamilton, Cruz, Napoli, Kinsler, and Young. To me that says you need both to win it all. Give me the player who has the best chance to be a difference maker on a WS team whether it be a pitcher or a hitter.

The best thing about the hitter is that there is no TJ surgery to worry about. The second best thing is that over the years we have had more success developing hitters.

Take the best player. Who knows how our squad looks in 3 years. Doubt if de Castillo remains a catcher. Defense is not elite but bat is. Has power, short stroke and selective.
A lot of time to decide though and things change

Harrison was still developing that year. I can't name on one hand people who wanted him to start over Holland. They had one pitcher go 3-0 against us. We had a great offense no bulldog pitcher like they had or a Bumgartner.

Adamantly opposed to trading any of our young studs like Huff, Trevino, Jung etc. we have a solid bunch of young positional players and need to stick with them

its unprecedented and unfortunate, but I remember that we actually had to face him 4 times. We beat him in game 5.

If, and this is a big if, a couple of years down the road, we have developed a very good 3B and a very good SS, then IKF could become that super utility player that everyone thinks Santana should have been. That could include being a third catcher.
I was thinking more along the lines of we have an injury to Trevino and Huff is our DH. Then slide IKF in for a few innings to catch. So not really a 3rd catcher but an emergency backup to keep the DH spot in an unlikely scenario.

Could not agree more. Go and get pitchers by the dozens.

It is only my opinion but good pitching will win over good hitting. Get as many pitchers as possible. I remember in the 1955 Cleveland had a pitching staff that dominated the AL. Herb Score Bob Lemon, Bob Feller and one other I can not remember.Pitching will win out.

well unfortunately we have 3 already penciled in for 2021 in Lance Lynn, Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles. we may still trade Lynn during the off-season but Gibson and Lyles aren't going any where. add Allard as the 4th and all we will need is a #5

Does not look as if FO is looking to win. I think they are looking to see what moves are available that will help the team or at least they should be. What is the best move concerning Oder Gibson lyles and Lynn and of course draft picks.

The only viable trade piece is Lynn. The others are unlikely but knowing JD he will give away prospects for crap

Not a JD fan but I think it is worth mentioning that that most of our team now are young guys who have come up through the ranks. Calhoun and Solak are exceptions but not complaining about them. Also we have more coming such as Jung. Not bad. Young pitchers too.

The prospects look promising, but every year there are promising prospects. We should be targeting AA level pitching in any trades right now.

Having the 2nd and 31st pick should net us two top prospects.
