BA has the Rangers taking University of Miami catcher Adrian Del Castillo at #2.

Not sure why when we need pitching so badly

A third catcher who could also play a couple of other positions would be ideal. When Chirinos first came up he had experience at a few other positions as well. Someone like a much younger Chirinos would be ideal.
Problem is we’re not in a position where we can afford to carry a 3rd catcher but IKF could handle the position for a game or 2.

I still think it should be Leiter or Rocker.

very early opinion tho. I know there’s more youth baseball to be played in between that time.

May Keep him in MILB and keep him for trading. Everyone is looking for good talented catchers. Drafting him does not mean we have to immediately put him on the 40 man roster.

This was my thinking. There are several spots that need attention ahead of catcher.
I agree Eph. Was thinking this particular catcher may be top notch and used as trade bait for some badly needed pitching or even a power bat. Otherwise I don't know what their interest would be.

seems like all we’ve been able to get from other teams lately is players to be named later and guys with big attitudes who can’t play defense.

Never been a fan of players to be named later. That is BS from the git go. That is an opening to put it to you later.

What is their reasoning?
The story is behind a paywall, but I imagine they are using the best player available reasoning. Someone questioned Adam about that and he thought if the catcher was the best player, then that is who you draft. I don't agree with that in this case though.

There was a mention by Adam that he could play 1B and that he has played RF. I guess if he is supposed to be the top hitter and they plan on putting him at 1B or RF then that might make a little more sense.

In other words, he thinks that would make him look foolish so he refuses to admit his mistakes. Ironically, that makes him look even more foolish.

More from the article on catcher, Adrian Del Castillo.

"The Miami native put up a 995 OPS as a freshman, when he split time between catching and playing right field, and had a 1025 OPS as a sophomore (primarily catching) in the abbreviated 2020 season. He has hit for average and power in college as well as walking a lot, with more walks than strikeouts."

Is this catcher in college? Sounds good... like to have great options at #2 pick

Astros score a bunch of unearned runs in the 9th to break a tie. SMH

Can't get interested now. Once we are out this screwy season it means little to me. Rather get involved in the off season.

I disagree with best available when you have 2 young catchers in Trevino and huff who look promising.

we need a really good position player to fill a hole in our lineup or a pitcher who projects to be a good major league starter at #2 overall.
