I get your point and it has merit but when you can't play your own position after three seasons, I have doubts he will learn much at other positions. Let's face it. Oder is not MLB caliber.

The countdown on Odor is 2 years right?

2023 is a team option that I think no team in MLB would pick up after odor’s body of work in his contract. I don’t even think he can convince the rangers to pick up the option in 2023 unless he plays at an all star level both years.
He is not MLB caliber player. He was a mistake that has embarrassed the Rangers. What will happen with him is anyone's guess.

We've spilled enough ink about Odor. Personally, this Huff kid has me excited for the future.
He is exciting all right. Visions of Pudge come to mind. Dream on but he will likely be fun to watch

My only issue with Huff, and I realize I was the one mentioning trading Trevino or Huff, is that I just can imagine anyone his size making it very long behind the plate. He can for sure do it for a couple of years but then the wear and tear on joints that big are going to catch up to him. He should be working on his skills at 1B with an eye 3 years down the road. 6'5" 240 is a big boy, that's Gallo's size and he is curling up behind the plate 100 games a year?

I think you will see him at 1st from time to time

Agree. Didn't think he would accomplish what he did in the short time he was up here.

Yeah, not too many catchers his size. The closest I can think of is Salvador Perez and he is 6'3", 250 lbs and Jorge Alfaro at 6'3" and 230 lbs.

I would hate to see Sam or Jose' sitting on the bench with those run producing bats while one of them is playing. Most likely won't be possible but a 3rd catcher would allow one or the other to play first every two or so days giving us a chance to score more runs. A 3rd Catcher likely not possible.

I think the 3rd catcher is very conceivable and I am not talking Mathis

Mathis is not a consideration I hope
I think Mathis will stay. He can’t hit but pitcher’s love him. He has shown to lower a pitcher’s ERA by half a run since 2007 (but it’s reported there are a lot of variables contributing to that stat). Still he has a value of game calling that goes beyond offensive stats.

No to Mathis. He is not so good that he can't be replaced with a catcher better with a bat. Most of our young pitchers need to become acquainted with their future receivers.

A third catcher who could also play a couple of other positions would be ideal. When Chirinos first came up he had experience at a few other positions as well. Someone like a much younger Chirinos would be ideal.

Just a thought and yes I know the Rangers have said they are done with the experiment, but IKF could be a 3rd C if the need arose.

If, and this is a big if, a couple of years down the road, we have developed a very good 3B and a very good SS, then IKF could become that super utility player that everyone thinks Santana should have been. That could include being a third catcher.

Here is an article about a guy who could be our third catcher and also play SS, 3B, and 2B.

Give the young ones a chance to develop that ability.

BA has the Rangers taking University of Miami catcher Adrian Del Castillo at #2.
