Texas Rangers 2020-2021 Offseason Thread

Do you remember Luis Arroya his relief pitcher? Back then there were not many relievers like today. If Whitey got in trouble out came Arroya. So many good memories.
We lived in a small country and radio was your only means of getting Baseball. We only got one station and they only broadcast Yankees games. So I was brought up with Mickey Mantle. Unmatched even today.

My mom was raised as a Yankee fan. Lived in NY for a bit as she was an army brat and my grandfather served. She was a fan of Pee Wee Reece.

One tidbit, i got to see Mantle one day on the golf course when a teenager here in Dallas. Solid husky guy who could hit the golf ball too a long ways. We were behind him walking the course but we were often quicker than him and his buddies in their carts so I got to watch him tee off a few times before they sped up the pace. They weren't going to let a couple of squirts like us play through but I didn't mind, it was Mantle.

Number of great players passing away in the past few weeks. Brock, Gibson and Morgan.

One last thought, I saw Gibson pitch a WS against Lolich on TV when games were during the day. The mound was up a bit but he was menacing and dominating.
Those were great baseball days. May have been McClains 30 win year. Think it was 68. Seems like it was a year off when Brooks R had the legendary defensive series with the Os.

Back the. I was a bigger baseball fan than a home team fan. Probably better for the soul too
Those dumb Rangers have probably messed me up. Haha

My dad was stationed on Cape Cod in 67-68. So I was glad that the Cardinals beat the Red Sox and I do remember the Cards-Tigers WS the next year. Hated that the Tigers won. Gibson was not a guy I would have wanted to face. By the way the year you are thinking of Gibson had a 1.12 ERA in over 300 innings pitched.

I do remember the name but didn't realize he relief pitched for Whitey. From 1963-67 we were stationed on Oahu. There were not live sports broadcasts so I had no choice but to listen to games on my TRANSISTOR radio. I hated the Yankees so much that when the Cardinals beat them in the World Series I became a Cardinal fan.

Wish they’d get this crap over so we can see what JD/owners are going and not going to do. I want to know how much money they’re going to waste on 3rd & 4th level FA’s, which of our FA’s they going to waste money re-signing, who gets traded and which of our kids who should be on the roster get relegated to the minors because of the previous items

I was really glad to see the Ray win. Fairbanks was big for the Rays. At least now I may watch the World Series.

As a side note I am not sure what the Rays manager was doing by taking out Morton and putting in Anderson who was garbage in that series. If there was any hope for the Astros it was that Morton would be out of that game.
