No More "Bullpen Failure"
Yes and almost half of those have their primary position listed at 1B which highlights how important it is to get power from that position. There was only 26 players to hit at least 25 HR's in 2014 Bennie.

I said 30 homer seasons are becoming rare in baseball now. Just going off the number you chose. 11 players last year hit 30 or more homers across all positions.Okay, let me clarify then. JTA had said Smoak projected out to hit 21 in a 162 game season. I said I wanted 25 minimum and preferably 30. You just changed the conversation to what they hit while playing 1B. If we keep this to the original discussion we were talking about what your !B hits on a 162 game average. Just because a lot of 1B are playing at other positions or hitting at DH doesn't change the fact that they are capable of hitting 25 or more in a 162 game span.
I believe there were 13 teams that got 25 or more HRs from their collective first basemen last year. I want to get 25-30 at least from my primary first baseman and if others play that position in his place at times it would be good to get that many from that position collectively. If Prince and Mitch split 1B and combined they hit 25-30 then that is fine with me even if neither of them hit 25 while playing 1B.
Smoak being able to hit 21 HRs in a full 162 game season is not good enough for me and doesn't impress me at all.
If my memory serves me Pudge and Juando were just as highly anticipated if not even more because they had been with the organization since they were very young. Gallo's is much more than Profar though. This might be the biggest prospect debut in club history. The coverage of minor league players is unprecedented levels right now. I have to think most Rangers fans know the name Joey Gallo even more so than they did Profar. He's already got a huge fanbase and hasn't taken a single AB in the majors. It's exciting even if they are doing it a little early.
Primary position listed does not mean that's where they played the majority of their innings.Yes and almost half of those have their primary position listed at 1B which highlights how important it is to get power from that position.

And I think it matters where they are playing while they hit the homers. You cannot say Brandon Moss is a 1B who hit 25 homers without acknowledging he didn't play the majority of his games in the position.
I think a better way to look at it is the position as a whole. You want that 1B spot in the lineup to hit 25+ homers a year no matter who plays it.
It still points out that 1B is usually a power position.Primary position listed does not mean that's where they played the majority of their innings.

That might be a better way of looking at it, but that wasn't the way we were looking at it when I made my initial comment that you commented about.
If a guy is to play 1B 150 games then I want 25-30 HRs from him. If not I want 25-30 collectively from my first basemen.
Also I did say 25 HRs minimum and preferably closer to 30 or more. I have nothing wrong with a 25-28 HR guy who has a good average and maybe gets a good share of doubles also.
I am talking about how much we heard about them before they came up and how big of a deal it was when they did come up.You're talking across the entire fanbase or diehard fanbase?
The coverage is greater now though. Right now is a great time to be a prospect. Also a great time to be a fan of the game of baseball because of that.I am talking about how much we heard about them before they came up and how big of a deal it was when they did come up.
You are right about the actual debut, but there wasn't much time to hype him up before he got here. That was an incredible experience for all involved.David Clyde was probably the most anticipated Rangers player i remember. when he was announced as the starting pitcher they went from 10-12 thousand to a full house in what seemed like minutes and every local network had camera and news crews hanging out of the rafters of the old Arlington Stadium

Not sure if he was definitely ready, but I remember I was ready to see him come up. The same with Juando.I was only 13 at the time of Pudge and I remember the hype very well, but does anyone remember if he was called up because he was "ready", or was it more along the lines of "let's see if he's ready"?
It seems this club is fascinated with LH bats and SS when they draft or sign position players.Elvis is the only RH bat besides Cheerios? Ugh...this team is in serious need of a RH bat that isn't Smolinski.
I miss the hell out that kind of production from players. Not sure if he was definitely ready, but I remember I was ready to see him come up. The same with Juando.
