I believe I read he didn't play that many snaps in pass coverage. IMO the team just needs to find a way to get him as instinctive against the pass as he is against the run. Can't imagine better teachers than Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright.

So true!

I'd prefer Barton or Brooks playing over K.J. Wright. With all due respect to Wright, he has declined drastically and just isn't the player he was.

I wouldn't mind seeing that either... Not very excited to see KJ Wright starting again this season... Who knows, if Brooks turns head in camp, it could happen... RW did it during his rookie camp so who knows......

I definitely hope Bobby can play 3 more years, and it won't surprise me if it happens. He misses games here and there though pretty much every year. And even if we only play 2 LBs on most downs, you wouldn't want a really good 3rd guy? That's leaving yourself pretty thin if not. We play 3 LBs quite a bit though, relative to other teams.

Tbh I just don't value linebackers very much which probably influences how I perceive this pick. I don't think an elite linebacker impacts the game nearly as much as an elite corner, defensive back, or defensive lineman.

You don't remember life before Wags? We had a hell of a time finding a good LB... And when we did, it helped turn the tide... Throughout history, when the Hawks had great LB's, our defense was great...

Is it just me, or does it seem like nearly every prospect taken so far has some sort of wickedly awful & tragic backstory?

That's fair, but you still have to have some on your team. And if you have to have some on your team, why not have good ones? And beyond that, I am not sure if there was much opportunity to get elite talent at any position where we were drafting. Sort of the reality of our sustained success I guess. We have not made a 1st round selection earlier than 1.27 since 2012 (Irvin at 15).

this has been shown not to be true. Ever see those stats of the teams record when Wags is not playing? or when both Wags and Wright are not playing? it's bad. Bobby is a stud but i think 2 years from now he will be a shadow of his former self. Kendricks is not coming back and Brooks can play that spot because he is active enough, fast enough and smart enough to do so and the Hawks like to bring the Strong side Linebacker on blitz's and Brooks has a knack for working through traffic to get to the runner or QB.

I thought the pick was a reach till i looked at what Brooks might be able to do that this defense tries to do. Well last season we saw them keep 3 lbrs on the field WAY more than they normally did before. I hated it but this looks like a move to add more speed and athleticism to that linebacker room... speed... something i said in many game threads is " Defense looks slow out there"

I don't think that is true. I think in their defensive scheme his job was to spy or rush the passer on passing downs.

Remember the Chad Brown signing? He definitely helped turn our defense around.

Lofa was great until injuries did him in.

I wonder if we'll trade down with 1 of our 2nd round picks...

Seems like it and also seems like they all live in mansions.
