Mostly a back up and special teamer up to this point..... Lots of money for a guy who couldn't stay in the Browns' starting line up.
Not that the decisions made by the Browns should be some aspired benchmark....

Isn't he just a name now? 32 years old?

Hard to say.

He's coming off the worst year of his career and clearly age is no longer on his side, but given the QB situation in GB while Rodgers was injured, I believe that Jordy probably could still be a serviceable #2 WR at this point in his career. Worth noting that in 2016 he was still a force to be reckoned with. Seahawks will also be lacking a real big-body at WR so I think Jordy could offer us a lot of utility.

The fact that he couldn't block really hurt our running game having him out there, he's more like a big receiver not a true TE.. He also started dropping some easy passes, which was surprising because he is a good receiver overall... But I"m with you, no reason to resign him...

Take out Jimmy Graham's redzone production and he was not very good in 2017 IMO. He was always a terrible blocker, and he really disappeared in a number of games.

Week 1: 3 catches 8 yards
Week 2: 1 catch for 1 yard
Week 13: 0 catches 0 yards
Week 14: 1 catch for -1 yards
Week 15: 1 catch for 3 yards

This isn't even taking into account the uncharacteristic number of drops he had. For the sake of continuity it would've been nice to keep him around, but not at even a fraction of the price he demanded. Obviously players have off days, but Graham just wasn't getting open. Many of his catches outside the redzone were merely dump offs in the flats. He just was not a threat down the middle of the field in 2017. Hopefully for him, the Packers find creative ways to get him involved. He was never a good scheme fit from the beginning unfortunately.

Seahawks sign Barkevous bingo on a 2 year 10.1 million dollar deal

Barkevious Mingo $6.8 million Seahawks deal; $3.2M gtd, $2.2M signing bonus, base salaries $1M (gtd), $3M; $18,750 per game active roster bonus annual, up to $1.1M playtime, sacks Pro Bowl incentive, up to $1M pt, sacks, Pro Bowl base escalator 2019
FROM rapsheet

Best name in pro football.

Have no idea if he's a good signing or not. Awesome name though.

Barkevous Bingo is mostly a body at this point. He's a guy who still has high upside (see where he was drafted), but has not produced much at all so far in the NFL. I think this is almost comparable to the Dion Jordan signing. Seahawks probably hoping they can get more out of his athleticism.

LB wasn’t the position I thought they would address in FA market.

Pretty sure he was signed to be an edge rusher.

Agree... I don't want him here... May as well sign Andre Johnson, too... AR made him look better than he is, imo... They had great chemistry which made a huge different...

Horrible signing. Hawks paying him 4 times the amount that the Patriots paid him in 2016 and they got rid of him after only 1 season. Colts only paid 2M last season. Yet another reach from Pete and the FO. Awful.

That is way too much of an over reaction for a player at this price point.

Dumb post.
We just tendered Coleman, who NE gave up on. Using your logic, Cassius Marsh should have been a great acquisition for NE...but alas...and what makes you feel the Colts can make any kind of a reasonable decision on a player?
Pete has a great mind for the D. I will give the guy a pass until I see how he plays under Pete's watch.
I fart in your general direction.

We signed Bennett as a former Seahawk washout and guy that the Bucs didn't really care about. He turned out ok.

It's about the financial commitment. He may be a bust but there is very little financial risk to that.

Seattle told Dllas that the asking price for Earl Thomas is their first round pick

Its all good. If your happy over paying for sub par players, than so be it. The FO has been doing it for a few years now, so I understand how people might feel used to it.

As for the Colts, even they were smart enough to not pay so much for an average player,,,,one that they only paid 2M for last year and cut bait with him after just that season. No, once again we reach and give the guy the following -

  • Barkevious Mingo $6.8 million Seahawks deal; $3.2M gtd, $2.2M signing bonus, base salaries $1M (gtd), $3M; $18,750 per game active roster bonus annual, up to $1.1M playtime, sacks Pro Bowl incentive, up to $1M pt, sacks, Pro Bowl base escalator 2019

2.4 million this year. That's actual paying peanuts, if he bombs cost 1.1 to cut next season.

More peanuts than anybody else has ever given him, but who cares I guess. He can join Joeckel and Jordan now as a 2013 1st round hack. The guy will probably end up playing special teams if nothing else. Draft is deep in LB talent. Should have just drafted one since we still have Wilhoite.

It was a minor move at a minor cost, he's shown some upside as a pass rusher, so been hard to pay him any less.
Who knows maybe the Seahawks do draft a LB with one of their lower draft picks, but lots of holes in the roster and not enough draft picks to fill them all.

I don't think you understand how free agency works.

In 2018, he's making less money than the average player as well. 1.4% of the total 2018 salary cap, which I believe is set at somewhere around $177M. And by the looks of it, this contract is team-friendly with an opportunity to cut him in a year and recoup $3.3M against the '19 cap.

It sounds like Mingo is added with the intent on being used as a pass rush specialist. The money is nothing that stops us from doing anything else we need or want to do, so no worries there. The contract also looks to give the team the clear advantage after the 2018 season. Who knows -- maybe this guy is the next Chris Clemons, but if he isn't then we aren't really out much. The worst part of it for me is we'll be butchering this poor guy's name as long as he's here.

Would like to see us move on a DT here pretty soon. The fact that both Richardson and Suh are still out there tells me the market may be a little lighter on that position than expected, which is good news for us. I remain content we didn't dive in to the stupid money frenzy that was happening on day 1.
