Like a lot of times the media write articles or quote people out of context to make it more than it actually is. the specific question asked for that response was, what is the difference between the American media and Japanese media. He didn't just bring it up, he answered a specific question asked.
But he's wrong....The results have not been the same. He's been pitching way too cute and not like he is capable. If the guy hadn't done what he did down the stretch last year I would probably agree with him. We've seen him dominate, and lately he's had some on games and then some awful ones.

I'm getting sick of watching AJ look like ass at the plate.

The worst thing about is Grimm stays in the rotation.

Yu hasn't consistently been himself ever since that 130 pitch outing. This development should mean the end of Wash as manager here. You don't fool around with your ace like that. It was a very foolish thing to do.

Up until his last start, he's actually been almost exactly the same since that outing

2.84 ERA after that game, 2.78 before the last game, 3.02 now

7 HRs allowed through that game, 8 allowed after

Walks are about the same as well 22 after, 19 through that game

He was never going to keep up that pace of Ks

Biggest thing that has changed is run support 9+ through that game, below 3 since

Mitch needs to get back to going oppo. Till he does that he won't be contributing like he was.

The HR/9 rate is not acceptable. Especially considering who has been hitting them off Yu. He allowed 14 homers all of last year and has 15 allowed already this season...I don't care about pitcher wins and losses. Run support is an excuse. That Yankees game was a prime of example of Texas giving him more than enough runs, but he got too cute.

Mitch is beginning to look like Murphy at the plate.

So point is, he's been slightly more hittable and walking slightly more hitters, but the biggest difference is run support

Darvish is leading people to believe that he is not coachable. If that's true he needs to get real. Even the best pitchers work with pitching coaches to improve and adjust. He's no different.

Yeah I didn't really like to hear what AJ had to say either. About YU has a feel for every batter and he wants to throw what he feels each time, or what not. While I'm a big believer in being able to shake a guy off, if you are not comfortable throwing a certain pitch at that time the result will probably not turn out well anyways. But shaking a pitch off in an AB and just not listening to an approach or philosophy that is in your best interest is just being stubborn.

My post was in response to the assertion that he hasn't been the same since the 130 pitch game, I contend he's been about that same

Him giving up too many HRs and being too cute with his pitches, Romeo can back me up here,

I wholeheartedly agree

Too many homers. On pace for 27. That's nearly double his first year total.

Got it. I thought that pitch count gate stuff was garbage from the get go.

You have to be stubborn to be a pitcher. However you also have to trust your stuff.

What I loved about Martin Perez last night was after the game he talked about trusting his stuff. I like the kid. I hope he sticks around and blossoms into that number 3 role.

His HR/9 so far this season is 1.13, last year's was 0.66.
His HR/FB this season is 15%, last year was 9%.
In other words, his HR/FB increased by 67% and his HR/9 increased by about 70%. That leads me to believe that a lot of is increased HRs have to do with bad luck. Not necessarily all of it, but a good portion.

I loved the way he never got rattled in spite of getting screwed by his defense or even that bases loaded single he gave up. He just came right back and got the next guy out. That fastball/slider/change up combo he uses is pretty effective.

That's always been his biggest problem, hope he keeps it up

He has to learn that he's going to have to live on the corners and with placing his fastball with movement

His changeup and curveball will be his strikeout pitches,

If he lacks command he starts living in the middle of the plate or trying to throw it past people

He has a respectable fastball but he's not a flamethrower
