Couple thoughts...

I'd much rather take McKillop over Kristic.

Also, won't the new kickoff rule go a long way to eliminating the roster spots for "special team guys"? I realize there is still punts, but I'm interested in everyone else's opinion because I haven't heard it talked about. Maybe it won't have any effect.

As long as the kicker is kicking it into the endzone, then I would see it affecting STs players....

Punt is another thing but perhaps only a matter of time til the NFL tweaks that. :thrasher:

I doubt they would tweak the punt/punt return much .Unlike kick off's where there are no "gunners" and the blockers from the receiving team are basically set from the start, the punt returner can use the "fair catch" option if he sees the gunners are too close for him to make an attempt for a return. Also, unlike the KO's, in punts, if the kicking team touches the ball first, the play is dead on the spot. In kickoff, the ball is up for grabs hence the on-side kicks.

Intriguing battle for Center position (SF Chronicle)

From the extra notes of this article

Willis said he misses his "brother" -- Spikes is now in San Diego -- but noted he's developing a kinship with Spikes' replacement, NaVorro Bowman.

"Every year there's going to be change," Willis said. "Unfortunately, (Spikes) was part of that change. But at the same time, I feel like I'm getting to have another brother with NaVorro beside me. He's a joy to play with."

Willis said Bowman has made a significant leap from his rookie year. And he indicated his work off the field has been instrumental in his development.

"You have understand it takes more than just athletic ability to play the game," Willis said. "You have to know what you're doing. You have to know what's going on -- that other guys are counting on you to know what's going on. So from that aspect, he's really on top of it."

Nice to hear that sort of praise from Patrick Willis. And, I guess that last thing he said about it taking more than just athletic ability is a good reminder about why Mays didn't make any improvement from his rookie year.

I agree X, we have many pieces. This Sat., will be a solid test. If we perform well against Houston and Wade Phillips, I'm going to be wearing a smile on my face and hope on my sleeve come Sept. 11th

Yes sir. I'm in favor of Harbs playing the "starters" some extended time, a shorten offseason pretty forced this into play. Excited to see what we can do defensively as well as offensively against a 34 def.

I would like to see Dobbs make the final cut he has looked good in the preseason games. And Bowman is looking like he might lessen me being pissed off at the Niners for not keeping Spikes.
