Well shit I was 21. Not like I was at the god damned Cactus Club now was I.

So at the bar was there aggressive and violent physical contact happening all around you that was being permitted, like there is on the ice at an NHL game? It was a little while ago but I don't remember my 21 year old experience being like that.

Usually at some point in the night a fight would break out. Lotta douchebags in the world.

There was the one time I was wearing a blue shirt and walking down an alley after leaving a bar as a fight broke out and a bunch of psychopaths were looking for a guy with a blue shirt. That story never gets old. Got jumped and pummelled by 4 idiots and somehow walked away with barely a scratch.

These are also the only two non-father-administered beatings I've ever taken in my life save the beating my psyche takes watching the Toronto Maple Leafs year-in year-out.

OK, but that certainly doesn't sound to me like a "yes" answer to my question though.

Think of it this way... if you're on the ice and don't notice someone on the other team (or even on your own team for that matter) until the last second, what do you do? You protect yourself, get your arms up and give it to him so that you don't get the worst of it. And this is pretty much standard practice for everyone on the ice. But if this were standard practice for everyone at a bar I don't imagine that bar would stay in business for long.

I guess that you just live a very different life than I do then. I mean, I've run over someone in almost every full contact hockey game I've ever played but I can't recall ever doing something similar in a bar and/or it being standard (let alone permitted) fare at any bar I've visited.
Not visiting the right bars apparently...

There were drunk college kids "dancing". Likely could describe that as "aggressive".

Of course, if somebody got concussed then suddenly got too "aggressive" while dancing I don't think the offender would be able to blame the concussion so...

I highlighted what I believe to be the key in your post - Both the NBA and NFL officials spokespersons are of the belief that Wideman fully intended to hit Henderson. Have they studied all of the documents in the hearings and were they present to hear all the testimony provided? Or are they basing their judgment on a 6 second vine? Methinks it is the latter.

And yeah, perhaps my comparison isn't the best, but I really don't know why the NBA and NFL are wading into this in the first place. I think they have enough issues within their own league to deal with.
I haven't studied them all, which is why I withhold the judgment.

But honestly I see it as a politics thing, just like BBB said. Although the different officials unions are in very different positions within their sports, they're still unions with similar overall interests.

I really see it no different than when a (non-sports) labor union goes on strike and other local unions stage a sympathy strike or issue a "we support our brothers" statement, regardless of the specific causes of the strike.

Well Mr Wideman done it
No doubt he was the culprit
With Gary Bettman clucking all the while
Don Henderson's injury made no one smile
With BBB unconscious on the barroom tile

We're talkin' lawsuit
From Cowtown to Toronto
Talkin lawsuit
It won't be settled pronto
The NBA and NFL agree
The lawyers will keep ringing in their fees
talkin' lawsuit
We'll watch it on tv

lol - Had to check the original lyrics for inspiration, but all together, it was a 10 minute task.

Jonathan Quick now leads the way as far as shutouts are concerned for US born goalies.

Penguins in top shootout form leading up to the playoffs.

At least they gained a point on a contender and stayed out of the 8th seed.
