...does that mean you have to put them on your exempt list? Or that you basically get a few freebies?

I'd say put an end to the debate with the Canucks signing Russell on July 1st and also retaining Hamhuis. In other words...

Keep Murray and bye bye Bunglefuck Fleury, hello free cap space!

Sign a veteran backup to give Murray a safety cushion and teach him a few things. Just pray it isn't Cam Ward lol

I mean, I'd protect Murray too. But let's not pretend MAF wouldn't have a good trade return.

LMAFO!

Sorry Pix, had to. ;)
I have to too. He's signed long-term at big money and the trend for goalers as of late has been to acquire young guys who were backups. It's been mixed results, but better than trading for a $6 mil/yr guy who forgets how to tend goal once the Ides of April arrive.

Of course, the Pens can always try to trade him prior to the expansion draft but the NHL will have yanked pretty much all the leverage from their situation if they had any to begin with.

He's a Cup winning, 31 year old goalie making the 15th highest salary among goalies. He's *very* movable. I'm not expecting a ridiculous return, but he's going to get something that isn't just cap space. Goalies are hitting their stride in their 30s. And I know he had two poor postseasons, but holy shit. He's a top end starter in the NHL. And he's had a few above average postseasons since. I do agree that the younger guys are the trend, but there are still multiple teams that would be interested in a proven guy.

Guess if I'm protecting for the Leafs, it'd have to be Sparks, Rielly, Gardiner, Corrado, Kadri, Komarov, JVR, Bozak, Soshnikov and one of Holland/Hyman.

Yep, this won't be too hard on the Leafs lol

The debate on the cesspool yesterday was do the canucks protect the sedins

and the question was brought up .. will the league have a minimum $ cap value for claimed expansion players ... ie does Vegas HAVE TO claim to the cap floor :noidea:

See the Friedman tweet at the top of the page though...makes it seem like they're considering including NMCs, but seems like that could be a giant cluster.

He had 4 straight sub .800 sv%'s in the postseason. That is absolutely awful and really incomparable with any of his contemporaries. He was better the past two playoffs but was he 3 more years at $5.75m better?

I'm sorry but I just don't see it without Pittsburgh taking back terrible contracts in return and in that case why not just rid yourself of him for free?
