Effffffffffffffff

This is okay as long as 1) the draft happens this year and 2) that whole "no one less than 2 years pro is eligible" thing is true.

Don't leave me Magic Korp!

...does that mean you have to put them on your exempt list? Or that you basically get a few freebies?

FFFFFFF

Better chance of someone taking Clarkson.

From your keyboard to God's ears.

Yeah I can see GMs battling with their consciences here.

Quite a few get out of jail free cards to be had for sure.

Edmonton can't win first overall in this draft, can they?

Guess you missed the part about guys with fewer than 3 years pro experience or taken in the last 2 drafts being exempt.

The last I read said 2 years pro experience, so I apologize if it's been confirmed that it will be actually be 3.

I still don't see how Connor Brown would be exempted though. He'll have 3 pro seasons next offseason.

I think they're reporting it as "fewer than three years" of pro experience, which could definitely make a big difference for some guys.

And I'm assuming they'd work under the same standard as they use for determining when the ELC kicks in for a guy, though I've not seen confirmation on that.

I was doing the list for this offseason. But yeah, guess it would make sense that it happens next year, in which case I expect Bozak to have been dealt anyway.

/And I would obviously protect Brown over at least 3 of the guys I named.

Jets vs. Flames tonight - Two teams with identical records (29-35-5). I'm sure the players on each team want to win tonight, not sure if the fans of either team feel the same way.

I'd guess the Sens would protect:

D
Karlsson
Ceci
Methot

F
Stone
Zibanejad
Hoffman
Turris
Lazar
Ryan (or MacArthur if he comes back super healthy)
Pageau

G

Anderson

I'd like to know if there's any non-goalie that a team could leave off were the draft held tomorrow that would bother anybody. I don't think there would be many.

As of right now, I think the Jackets protect:
D
Murray
Jones
Goloubef (Personal choice, they probably actually protect Savard)

F
Saad
Atkinson
Dubinsky - NTC
Foligno - NTC
Wennberg (Might be auto protected, 2nd year pro)
Karlsson
Jenner

G
Bob

If they get two freebies with the NTCs, then they add Calvert and Rychel. Hartnell, Dubi, Foligno and Clarkson are on NTCs

If NTC/NMC'ers are indeed protected than I don't even see how they wind up with anything other than the 29th placed team. There are just way too many guys on them that would probably otherwise be decent building blocks at the very least.

I remember last time being pissed off because we lost Scott Walker
I mean, not as pissed as when we lost Corrado because Benning was too fucking stupid to put Higgins on IR, but still...

It could still be worse, you could have given away Joe Colborne because you were afraid of losing Colton fucking Orr on waivers.

I don't know if I should be excited that Joe Colborne is starting to rack up points when the games don't mean very much. On the other hand, he's delivering quite well for the amount he is being compensated.

So I just read the recap from LeBrun on ESPN and he seemed to be suggesting that Kapanen would need to be protected as well.

"But if they're entering their third year of pro hockey, they're no longer exempt for the expansion draft. Teams would have to either protect them or expose them."

Here we go, TSN says the same. So Kapanen and Brown would both need to be on the list (or be exposed) for a 2017 offseason expansion draft.

"The answer is that first- and second-year professional players - including those in the minors - will be exempt from the expansion draft. Players entering the third and final year of their entry-level contract would be eligible, though."

NHL presents potential expansion draft plans

I would like the Leafs to lose Brown just to watch Grapes go apeshit crazy on HNIC.
