Kevin Woodley always has great goalie insight/info ... one thing he also mentioned that i didnt know was that the NHL isnt really working with the manufacturers at all ... they basically tell them ... this is what we want .. make it ... in 2 months ... which is difficult when they may have a hundred machine dies for cutting material or specialized equipment for extrusion/blowing of the plastics used in protective gear

and the NHL fee for equipment with a logo on it, last time he heard, is $85K per item type with logo branding on it ... ie Bauer provides gloves, helmets, skates ... etc ... $85K to the NHL for each item type ... for Bauer thats not a big deal ... but for a smaller manufacturer its a barrier to entry

I think DGB had a post last week about how all of the NHL's "efforts to increase scoring" haven't increased scoring at all over the years.

Shrink it, evaporate it, play with both goalies pulled. It's all whatever. I'm far more interested in how they inevitably fuck up the expansion draft.

The way I read it you can protect 3 and 7 for a total of 10, but if you want to go over either limit and protect either 8 forwards or 4+ defensemen you can only protect a total of 8.
