Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Week 16 Preview

Game Information:

Date: Sunday, December 22, 2024

Time: 1:00 PM ET

Location: Northwest Stadium, Landover, Maryland

Broadcast: FuboTV and FOX, with Joe Davis, Greg Olsen, Pam Oliver and the Washington Commanders Radio Network.

Team Standings:

Philadelphia Eagles: 12-2

Washington Commanders: 9-5

For the Philadelphia Eagles it's winner takes the division and for the Washington Commanders it's winner takes a gigantic step! What more is there to say about this big-time NFL clash on Sunday? We all know what's at stake but there are several subplots that must be mentioned here. The Commanders would love to be the team that prevents the Eagles from clinching the division title on their home field, the number one seed in the 2024-2025 playoffs and the NFL rushing record out of the hands of Saquon Barkley for at least another week. The Eagles, no friend of their division rivals, will first look to achieve the aforementioned goals, hold Terry McLaurin below the necessary 31 yards needed to once again eclipse 1000 yards for the fifth straight season, extending his frachise record, and delay Washington's effort to qualify for the post-season themselves.

My Predictive Game Scenario: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Commanders

Date:
Sunday, December 22, 2024 Location: Northwest Stadium, Landover, Maryland

First Quarter

Kickoff: The Commanders receive the opening kickoff. The return ends at the 25-yard line. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders' offense take the field.

First Drive: Daniels starts strong, completing quick passes to Terry McLaurin and Ben Sinnott. They move the ball efficiently down the field, culminating in a 12-yard touchdown pass to McLaurin.

Eagles' Response: Jalen Hurts leads the Eagles on their opening drive. Hurts relies on short passes and handoffs to Saquon Barkley—the drive stalls at midfield, and the Eagles punt.

Second Quarter

Commanders' Drive: Daniels continues his hot start, hitting Dyami Brown for a big gain. The drive results in a 38-yard field goal by Zane Gonzalez

Eagles' Offense: Hurts finds a rhythm, connecting with A.J. Brown for a 35-yard gain. Barkley caps off the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run.

Late Half Heroics: With less than two minutes remaining, Daniels leads a two-minute drill. He finds Zaccheaus and McLaurin for key completions, setting up a 14-yard touchdown pass to Dyami Brown.

Third Quarter

Eagles' Drive: Hurts leads a balanced drive, with Barkley and Brown making key plays. The drive ends with the Eagles employing the “tush push” and a Jaylen Hurts touchdown.

Commanders' Response: Daniels shows his dual-threat ability, scrambling for a 20-yard gain. He then connects with Jeremy McNichols on a screen pass that goes for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Fourth Quarter

Eagles' Effort: Hurts drives the Eagles down the field with a mix of short passes and Barkley runs. Hurts finds Brown for a 5-yard touchdown pass.

Eagles Control: Hurts takes over and leads a methodical drive, eating up the clock. A series of short passes and runs gets them into the red zone. Barkley finishes the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

Final Defensive Stand: The Eagles' defense holds firm, forcing the Commanders to turn the ball over on downs. Hurts runs out the clock with a few kneel-downs, sealing the victory. Predicted Final Score: Eagles 28, Commanders 24

Post-game development:

The Commanders' loss drops their record to 9-6, while the Eagles take the division title with a 13-2 record. This was an excellent performance by the Commanders, and despite the loss,
their playoff aspirations were heightened by an upset win by the Giants over the Falcons.
