Commanders vs. Eagles game info

Date:
Thursday, November 14, 2024

Time: 8:15 p.m. ET

Location: Lincoln Financial Field. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Broadcast: Amazon Prime Video (FOX within the DMV) With Al Michaels, Kirk Herbstreit, Kaylee HartungIan Eagle, and Washington Commanders Radio Broadcasting Network.

Before writing this, I ran through as many matchups as possible in an attempt to convince myself that there are factors that lend themselves to a Washington victory during Primetime on Thursday night. I would be remiss not to offer a Bro hug and many thanks to @Ojb81 who offered the following; "I think the Commanders have a very underrated defensive front, and I think it'll be enough to cause problems for Jalen Hurts. I can see at least 2, maybe 3 forced INTs, and multiple sacks. I also think that the Eagles' have been getting fat on teams that don't play sound defense, they're not used to teams that can be as physical as they are (or at least, as physical as they once were). i think your defense will stifle their run game enough that they'll be one-dimensional for the majority of the game, and the commander offense will come out with a major chip on their shoulder, wanting to prove that the loss to Pittsburgh was an aberration, that they won't fall into the habit of losing." Again many thanks to him!

To that, I'll just add...

Although the oddsmakers have installed the Eagles as 3.5-point favorites when the Commanders typically win, it has been in games that Jayden Daniels has gotten the passing game going. Entering Week 11, they are 5-1 when Daniels clears 225 passing yards and just 1-2 when he does not. The Eagles' secondary is very beatable, especially with their tendency to play man coverage at one of the highest rates in the league.
For Washington to pull off the upset, their defense must show up. Daniels has proven capable of winning shootouts at times but the Commanders have allowed three or more touchdowns in each of their losses. Both teams are coming in on a short week but it will actually be the Eagles having to deal with the rougher travel back home from Dallas. The Commanders need to strike early to stay ahead of Philadelphia. Let's take a look at some particulars.

First Quarter

The game kicks off with the Eagles receiving the ball. Jalen Hurts leads the Eagles on a methodical drive, mixing short passes and runs by Saquon Barkley. The drive culminates in a 5-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert.
Jayden Daniels responds for the Commanders with a quick-strike offense. He connects with Terry McLaurin on a deep 50-yard pass, setting up a 10-yard touchdown run by Austin Ekeler/ (Brian Robinson Jr.).

Second Quarter

The Eagles' offense continues to move effectively with Barkley running the ball. Hurts finds A.J. Brown on a crossing route for a 30-yard gain. The drive stalls, and Jake Elliott nails a 40-yard field goal.
Daniels leads another impressive drive for the Commanders. He scrambles for a 20-yard gain, setting up a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ben Sinnott.
With time winding down in the first half, Hurts orchestrates a two-minute drill, driving the Eagles down the field. He caps the drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith.

Third Quarter

The Commanders start the second half with the ball. Daniels connects with Noah Brown on a quick slant for a 25-yard gain. The drive ends with a 38-yard field goal by Austin Seibert/ (Zane Gonzalez).
The Eagles respond with a balanced drive, featuring runs by Barkley and short passes. Hurts finds Brown for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Fourth Quarter

The Commanders come out firing in the final quarter. Daniels hits McLaurin for a 35-yard gain, setting up another Seibert/Gonzalez field goal from 42 yards.
The subsequent Eagles' drive stalls, and they are forced to punt. Daniels takes advantage, leading a 70-yard drive that ends with a 5-yard touchdown run by Gibson.
With just five minutes left, Hurts leads the Eagles down the field. He connects with Goedert on a crucial third down, keeping the drive alive. Elliott misses wide right ona 45-yard field goal attempt. In the final two minutes, Daniels leads the Commanders into field goal range. Seibert/ Gonzalez converts a 40-yard field goal to give the Commanders the lead.

Final Drive

With just over a minute remaining, Hurts and the Eagles have one last chance. Hurts scrambles for a 20-yard gain, moving the Eagles into Commanders' territory. On a third and long, Hurts hits Smith on a deep post for a 35-yard gain, setting up first and goal at the Commanders' 5-yard line.
With time ticking down, Hurts finds Barkley on a short pass, and Barkley dives into the end zone for a touchdown. (Eagles 31, Commanders 30)
The Commanders attempt a last-ditch effort, but Daniels' Hail Mary pass is intercepted by Darius Slay, sealing the Eagles' narrow victory.

Post-Game Reactions

Jalen Hurts: "This was a hard-fought win. The Commanders pushed us to the limit, but our team showed incredible heart and determination."

Jayden Daniels: "We played our hearts out. The Eagles are a tough team, and we fell just short. We'll learn from this and come back stronger."

The Eagles' victory propels them to an 8-2 record, while the Commanders fall to 7-4. It's going to be a thrilling game that showcases the talents and resilience of both teams. Enjoy the Game Everyone!
