I definitely hear ya, he sucks at the x's and o's, very Ozzie Guillen like.

But the dude took 3 different teams to the playoffs, one of the few to do that. Stays a long time each stop. So the question becomes, is managing kind of meaningless, where a shitty one can ride high on 3 different groups of talent, because he's kind of irrelevant? Or is he possibly kind of good at whatever managing is (motivation, tactics, whatever combo)?

I lean more toward the manager doesn't make that much difference.

Look at the teams "he" took to the playoffs - not chopped liver. He got handed great talent and fucked it up (and fucked up the talent in a few cases).

I think a solid pickup would be Corey Hart. He's still under contract for next year at $10MM, so if the Giants take on all his salary, they make be able to pick him up cheaply. He's been playing 1st too a lot this season.

Not that I am overly thrilled with Hart, but I can see that one happening. If we eat all/most of the contract, we could probably get away with only parting with someone like Adrianza, Dominguez, Duvall, etc.

Dodgers pay all his salary, give up Eovalsi and a spec. Very good move for them but to many Dodgers fans expecting MVP Hanley

Giants counter move for Hanley acquisition could be Lincecum pitching like himself again

He may never be the 2008-2009 himself again, but just being solid is all we need from Tim.

And Belt playing to the potential everyone insists is there would be the end of the discussion, Giants win the division.

Looks like we're closing in on Scutaro from the Rox...I believe SabeySabes has tried to get this guy a couple of times.

ManTurd, your days are numbered.

I think Scutaro would be a greatb pick-up for depth. He can provide some time-off off for Crawford and Theroit. Makes Burris expendable and that's a good thing. I still wonder if we need to make some sort of an impact move similar to what the Doyers did with HanRam? In 2010 everything fell into place for us and it was exciting. In 2012 my expectations are much higher. This could very well be our year again except for two question marks ... Belt and Timmy. Just thought Belt had so much more than we are seeing and Timmy ... just don't know anymore. Keep saying/thinking he's only a step away from turning it around. If he doesn't turn the corner ... don't even want to consider that .... with 64 more games he'll get another 12 starts ... 7-5 in those starts would be one hell of an improvement for where we've been.

Giants, Angels Interested In Brandon League: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

League's WHIP, ERA and BB/9 have improved a lot since losing the closer job. He would be a lot cheaper than Betancourt both prospect and committed-money-wise.

IF we ended up with League, Scutaro, and a RamRam/Lopez type no name pick up, then I would be pleased.

Scutaro was the BoSox starting SS these past two years, dude doesn't suck. And he provides a much needed improvement bat wise from the bench.

A lot of Giants Nation is calling for Pence, Choo, and any other outfield bat possibly on the market, but I just don't see it happening. 1 1/2 year rentals are NEVER cheap, and we just got the farm back to a state of decency.

The Cubs have said they will eat all of Sorianos contract but 2 mil... Now before anyone laughs -

.274/.324/.503/.827 with 19HR

D wise 1.000 fielding percentage, and -0.1D WAR, which is league average for left.

I've thought about that. I was looking at his stats and he actually hasn't been THAT bad (except in 2009) and his fielding is overrated (in a good way, he's not as bad as people make him out, but he does make serious mistakes sometimes). If they pick up all his salary except for $2MM (if thats accurate), that could be a helluva deal.

Also hearing the Giants are inquiring about Pence and the Phillies price isn't too high. Hembree could be a good start, they are looking for relievers.

I have concerns about Pence's long-term health. His swing is soooo herky-jerky, and he is soooo tall, I see him as a back-issue waiting to happen.

I do like the way he plays the game, though...

With lil Bochy's rise, I think Hembree becomes redundant. No, lil B doesn't hit 99, but he hit's 93-95 and can paint like Picasso. It's like Streets control, but with velocity. Not to mention is sub 0.800 WHIP and 5.18 K/BB.

I'd try Panik, Hembree, and Noonan. We're eating 5mil this year, and probably 14 mil next year. They don't get back what they already gave to Houston if they want $$$$ relief.

Well, Pence would only be under control through next year (probably making about $14MM). It would be an investment, but not a long term one. Doubt he fits though.

Soriano sounds pretty good to me.
