I just guess my opinion from all the stuff I’ve read, which I’m not a scout so no real idea as I’ve never seen any of them play outside of Hancock. It doesn’t seem like it is really depleting the farm system. I don’t see any downside, because it is basically a deadline deal except the Mariners get him to start the season. Worst case scenario is the Mariners do their early season thing and he gets traded at the deadline to say the Rays, Orioles, Reds or one of the teams who aren’t in on him because of his full salary. But who knows, I see if your way too.I like to judge trades not only by what we got in return but what we could have gotten. Is one year of Soto the best we could get for these guys? If so, then pull the trigger. I really don't know the answer. I just hate depleting the farm for a rental then later say we don't have enough to trade of a piece we need because of it. I go back to the Castillo trade. It wasn't bad for the return (Castillo), but it was bad because we could have signed Gausman and still had those guys to plug the holes or trade for hole pluggers.
He wants to come to Seattle, so naturally they won’t sign him. Problem from stuff I’ve read is that he isn’t the type of pitcher the Mariners “like” because he walks a lot of batters. But to me, he is a better Robbie Ray. Ray walked a lot batters until his Cy Young season and both are dominant except a few innings here and there. One of Baseball's Top Free Agents Reportedly Wants to Sign with the Seattle Mariners This Offseason

But the downside on Snell is that he is Eric Bedard except instead of the 5th inning his is the 7th.
