A lot depends upon when you think our window is. If next year we are planning to contend then a reasonable extension of 2 years is fine by me. However if we crater this year then yes trade him if price is right.
We are doing better than all have thought and trading away best pitcher while we are contending even if it be April sends the wrong message.

All this being said it might be prudent to be a little more absolute a little closer to the break
I think you make a good point. A WINDOW/TIMELINE is needed before we go trading everyone. Lot of possibilities to consider and it is almost impossible to know when MILB pitchers will appear. That would have an effect who to trade. I am willing to trade anyone if the return is helpful but it also has to be at the right time.

It also depends on what is meant by contending. Does it mean that we are in the race for a second wildcard late in the season? Does it mean we are legitimate contenders to be in the WS because we are close to being the best team in the AL?

The latter is what I hope we are striving for. I am not interested in a WC unless it is in that rare instance where the top wildcard is the second best team in the league and not far from the best.

We are at least 3 years away from that I would think.

Our own Diosbel Arias has made this week's MLB Pipeline Prospect's team of the week.

2B: Diosbel Arias, Down East Wood Ducks (high Class A)
(Rangers No. 19 prospect)
.444/.484/.667, 7 G, 27 AB, 3 R, 12 H, 4 2B, 1, 3B, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 9 SO

After leading the short-season Northwest League in batting (.366) and on-base percentage (.451) in his U.S. debut last summer, Arias is putting up similar numbers after skipping a level to high Class A. He's riding an eight-game hitting streak during which he has batted .484 to raise his season line to .365/.423/.492 with six doubles in 17 contests.

Playoff experience even if not WS favorites helps development. It is a crapshoot IMO to gut good players for a window conservatively thought 3 years away.
We may have a tank tax before then. I would like to see all teams attempt to contend. This not happening is bad for baseball
Also teams evolve within a season to be favorite.

There has to be some good breaks go your way to win a WS. Stars need to be aligned

Frustrating because I really like Mazara, but he has been sucky this year.

One of my favorites going south

Always got to keep learning adjusting as pitchers and defense will figure you out. Double play was the worst case scenario and he played right into their hands. Just a shot in the dart but Mazara seems to go the other way well but does not seem to go up the middle as much

Can’t believe we’re getting shut down by this spot starter.

DDJ needs some competition . He has certainly been around long enough and never shows enough to be our starting CF.
