And Poole will never be a super long guy who can lock up the other team's best player in the NBA Finals. Wiggins is the 2nd best defender on the team.

That's why they drafted Kuminga and Moody.

There are many reasons they drafted them. If you take Wiggins off the team they don't even make the Finals. Without Poole they probably still win them.

You gotta take the chances with the young guys you drafted if you want to be able to afford to field a team. Gotta let Wiggins go if needed. Who plays PG after Curry? Maybe they'll find someone. Who knows? Maybe Rollins becomes that guy.

Also, even if this is true about last season, you have to ask the question about future seasons. If you get reasonable development from the young guys, you aren't as dependent on the current guys as you were last season.

Every year they bring in vets, they could easily find a backup PG if they needed to keep the better player (Wiggins)

I'm thinking about after Curry retires. He's 34 and has reached the pinnacle of his sport. Maybe he hangs it up in a few years? Who knows? It seems like Lacob prides himself in thinking years ahead. Lightyears guy, right? And he seems to want to maintain a team that can compete for the next 10 years. Poole is the closest thing they have to replicating a Splash Brother, so maybe Lacob doesn't want to let that go. Seems like they have enough young, long wings for the future.

Sigh. I think you have a lot of things jumbled up here. Curry is signed for 4 more years. Will he retire after that? Maybe, even if not he won't be The Guy anymore. 4 years is an eternity. 4 years ago KD and the Ws won their 2nd title together. Even if they keep Poole he may not be around 4 years from now.

Right now the idea is to keep contending with an aging core while adding new guys that maybe can become a new core. Wiggins emergence as arguably the best wing defender on the team and a strong offensive support option makes him far more important to the team than Poole. If Wiggins was 30+ maybe Poole has a better case. Wiggins is just entering his prime.

I trust whatever they decide but I strongly favor keeping Wiggins over Poole.

They could take another year to decide on this if they want. As you can tell, I certainly hope they keep Poole. Hard to let go of that playmaking and shooting. I'd rather take my chances that Kuminga or someone else can fill Wiggins' defensive role.

If Poole continues to improve and commands max money next off-season, do the Warriors match any offer? I think so.

If Draymond declines his player option after this season and re-signs on a team friendly deal, maybe there is a way to keep Wiggins and Poole?

It comes down to paying one or the other. I think they will choose Wiggins to keep. But a lot depends on how the season goes, how the kids look, etc.

I wouldn't expect him to, nor should he. He doesn't make that much really it's not some supermax. And no he'd never be able to take enough less to keep both those guys. Wiggins and Poole after this year will likely earn $70 mil or so combined per year and the Ws simply cannot afford them both. Especially because soon after you gotta pay the kids you hope become good.

2. Joe Lacob went on a podcast last week and said that there is a limit and it would be hard to see them bringing back both Poole and Wiggins after this upcoming year, as they will likely cost like $60 mil/yr combined not including luxury tax.
whats that?

in this envorinoment 26M a year is not exactly a ton....

I guess I could see him declining for a long term deal....but I highly doubt he would accept much less than 25........when he signed for what he is due to make- the cap was quite a bit lower.

maybe you can convince him to go for 3 years 60......but i would say that would be the low end. A dumb team would prob. offer him a lot more - and there are like 15 teams with max level cap space due next year- unlike this year when there were like 3 teams.

its exactly what i told you 2 weeks ago- even ran the numbers for you and you said I was wrong.

but again- I can do math.
Not sure where we disagreed, even the Yankees had an upper bound. It's just clear the Ws have to plan for one. They've done pretty well these last 6 years so, ya know, it's all good.

Didn't really expect them to keep 5 near max and max guys, nor will they need to thanks to the young 3. #lightyearsaheadinbothGMingandspending

I wouldnt cry any tears over Poole though. Def. substantially a product of his environment. I dont see much difference talent wise with him and Sexton.
